I tried the leaked version but it was obviously buggy. Isn't RIM supposed to be releasing 5.0 for all devices from 83xx on soon. I thought it was this week.

Anyone have any insight?

I believe RIM has released them to the carriers now it is up to them to release them to us. Did you try Birdmans and nathans 5.0 v7 or more? I believe they work well with sprint not sure about verizon ... see my sig for links

If I were you I would give birdmans v7 a shot. It works great on my 8330.
