Make a dummy Google account and get a Sony Xperia.
What do you mean by a dummy account?

Google would still track my actions and use them to target ads.

Not your actions - Bob's actions.

In any event, what are you afraid of anyway? If Google is ultimately going to take you down, you'll have 3 billion people going with you.

Nothing; I just don't like to support monopolies.

    Lol.

Even if they provide you with the best services available and provide 150,000 great jobs? They are well-known for being one of the best places to work, provide a lot of perks, and treat their employees well.

I think he'll prefer to call them "minions".

And who do you think makes "de-Googled" Android?

It doesn't matter how you slice it, there are ultimately only two OSes - Google's and Apple's. Period.

Others can play on top of them, but it doesn't change what's underneath.

What computer do you have? Is it Windows or Apple?

Ask the Fedora Linux crowd what phones they'd suggest?

I've now bought a Nokia feature phone. I'll decide whether to keep or return the Samsung Galaxy soon.

What's there really to decide, you either need a smartphone or you don't....

Likly that's what he is trying to figure out....

My Dad didn't need or want email or a browser, but he did like having a smartphone for mapping and to keep up with grandkids via Instagram.

I have to deal with a lot of older people that are trying to not get left out... or taken advantage of by today's technology.

Interesting, how long do you get to decide whether to return the Samsung as you’ve had it for at least 3 months, is it open ended?

I've decided to keep it for some tasks. However, I've found that I can add email and a PDF viewer to a Nokia 225 4G.
