I was talking to one of the tech reps at t-mobile the other day trying to find out if they are ever going to release an OS 5.0 for the BB 8900. They told me that they usally catch wind of software upgrades about a month before they release it, and that there was no word of one coming. BUT, she also said that many 8900 users were downloading the 9700 software and it was working great for them. I was just curious to know if anyone had heard of or tried this...Was the tech rep onto something or is this a load of malarchy?

Tech reps never know what they are talking about. The most clueless and uninformed people are the same ones that sell you phones.

im pretty sure she was talking about OS 5.0 in general, not the specific 9700 OS. OS's for one device cannot be loaded on a different one. it is model specific.

But just how much different is the 8900 vs. 9700, really tho? There really isn't mcuh difference, honestly. The Bold 9700's processor isn't that much higher than the Curve 8900's...not enough to really notice anyway. And the screen resolution is pretty much identical too. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked i guess...

I asked Bla1ze from crackberry about it and he told me it was pure crap, that it would f up your bb if you tried this. And that 5.0 isn't that far from being official!! yay!
