Whatev.08-07-08 09:26 PMLike 0 - Thank you for your reply! Yeah - I'm good. Just sucks that I wasted a good half-hour staring at a non-responsive status bar. It is all good in the hood!
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-09-08 08:27 PMLike 0 - Vista's searching is wacked out I have had vista for awhile now and am an advanced user and very technologically inclined but I can't figure out how to get vista searching to work like how it used to and search the whole pc it acts like it can never find anything unless i wait days for it to index the whole pc and that seems to be the only way I can get it to search. So with that said where is the folder with the PIN number as its name supposed to be so I can just browse to it instead.
EDIT: with some oddball poking around I figured it out. You need to use advanced search and tell it to search non-indexed, hidden, and system so that it will look everywhere.Last edited by Stoneryno; 08-12-08 at 05:37 AM.

- Crucial_XtremeRetired ModeratorDocs isn't really considered 3rd party in 4.5. But have you tried this method? Also, why would you use switch device?08-26-08 04:58 PMLike 0
- Crucial_XtremeRetired ModeratorI'm not sure what you're using, xp or vista or whatever, but you have to search through your computer. Make sure you search for hidden files. It's an option in the search function on the computer.09-01-08 01:02 PMLike 0
- Have you ever been able to install or play vidoes on your 8700?
Ok, so you need to back-up your 3rd Party Apps: a) because you want to or B) because you are about to wipe your device. Well, heres a How-To to get the job done. Here we go:
1)Download & install the newest Desktop Manager Version HERE
2) Connect BB
3) Open DM
4) Select Switch Device Wizard
5) Select Switch BB Devices
6) Select Next
7) Select USB & then your PIN #
8) Select Next. Enter your Password if required
9) Uncheck User Data & Settings and also Include Messages so that only 3rd Party Apps is selected
10) Select Next
11) When it's done backing up leave the screen as is.
DO NOT select Next or Cancel
12) Search your computer Folders & Files for a folder with your PIN # as the name. DEFINITELY check System Files & Hidden Files as well
13) After you find it, copy it & SAVE it to a easy accessible place
14) Go back to the Switch Device Wizard page that we left alone & cancel it. ALSO, check and make sure the folder IS saved before Canceling or the folder will be LOST
15) You can now wipe the device with JL_Cmder
RESTORATION
1) After you've loaded the OS go back & run the Apploader & Select ADD
2) "Browse" to find the folder we saved with your PIN # and Double click on the file named yourpin.alx.
3) Your 3rd Party Apps should appear in the Apploader screen
4) Select Finish to load Apps to device
5) Now you may restore other data from a previous backup.
**NOTE**
Some of the time 3rd Party Apps can be the cause for your problems and might be the reason behind you needing to wipe your device. If you are having problems, this MAY not be the wisest thing for you to do. However, if that's not the case, this tutorial is for you.
** EDIT** It has come to my attention that with Desktop Manager 4.5, it seems that some Applications MAY not back up. I myself, have not had this problem but close friends have and it is worth mentioning. It seems that the apps that get left behind on DM 4.5 are not getting left behind on DM 4.2. You may use which ever DM that suites your fancy.

I tried Loader.exe located in Apploader and that wouldn't work, and Desktop Manager also cannot connect to it.
HELP PLEASE!!!

- Yes the device switch wizard is intended to move your 3rd party apps to a new BB. If the activation code is tied to the PIN just contact them to obtain a new code. As long as you are the purchaser you will have any info they require as proof of purchase. I know I have switched devices in the palm platform many times and 3rd parties never had problems proving me a new activation code for my new devices.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com09-02-08 03:49 AMLike 0 - Crucial_XtremeRetired ModeratorCool. Take your time and just follow the guide and everything should be fine. This is totally the best way to back up 3rd party applications as sometimes the DM fails. GL, and post back you have any questions.09-03-08 04:27 PMLike 0
- Hi All,
Just downloaded the above DM vs and I am unable to save my third party apps into a file. I just get the New device drop down which doesn't appear to allow me to insert a file name or anything. Please Advise09-04-08 12:32 PMLike 0 - Crucial_XtremeRetired ModeratorAre you following the guide? Also, do you have the OS that your phone is using installed to the computer. Take it from the top and go step by step. If you're still having problems, post what you've done to that point and what is/isn't happening from there.09-04-08 12:52 PMLike 0

- Crucial_XtremeRetired ModeratorIf you are going to change the OS on your device then yes, it is wise to back up the 3rd party applications. I'm basically asking if the original OS is installed to your computer. Also, exactly where did the problem occur?09-04-08 01:07 PMLike 0
- IN the 4.6 dm vs under the switch wizard two drop downs show up. First is the current device and it auto drops in the pin and usb the adjacent dropdown is set for the new device and it will not allow me to insert a file name. None us there in brackets. It will prompt me to begin the process and after I hit next the applications are copied. Then another drop down occurs requesying for the new device but it will not allow the field to be filled with text or anything. It appears to be auto waiting for me to plug in a new device. Anyway thats where Im stuck.09-04-08 01:16 PMLike 0
