Have just done the Bold upgrade to the shiny new 5.0.0.100 and completed the 3rd party app backup before getting into the OS upgrade.
I move the folder and .alx to a temp folder for easy access and once the upgrade was complete attempted the recovery process. I navigated to my temp folder and selected the .alx from within the add/remove programs "browse" window, however I keep getting an error message saying "This application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded"
Any ideas?
It would appear that some of my apps survived the upgrade, but not themes and some of the important stuff is missing....
it usually will reside in the temp folder.to view this folder click start>run and type %temp% as shown, this will take you to the temp folder where the pin# folder will be. this is where i found mying at
I cannot find my pin folder anywhere and I have been trying for half an hour!
please help.
doing a search for arx or alx file (can't remember) comes up with a few temp files....I have show hidden files checked....
C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\ROAMING\intellisync\your_blackberry_pin
don't know why though
and I have two subfolders:
intellisync (which has the pin)
loader history
under intellisync there are folders
my pin
my pin.cfg
device
device cfg

if ur using Vista....click on the windows button, type this in the "Start Search" field:
%temp%
that'll open ur temp dir....the pin named folder should be there once u do a 3rd party bkp
For Vista users also go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Wndows Explorer and then go to folder options and check "Show hidden files and folders" then you should find it
Had the same problem trying to restore 3rd party app"no apps compatable for your divice".ALX file not in same folder as app. When I moved alx file in same folder browsed to alx file and selected, DM loaded them.Hope this helps someone.can't get key board off Flip side.oh well one battle at a time
I notice that the information provided is with the use of a PC but I have an IMAC is there any way to backup my 3rd party themes and applications. Or an application that I can purchase that would allow me to save the 3rd party themes and applications to my memory card.
I backed up 3rd party apps, saved the folder and alx file and now it wont load. I click on the alx file and it says no additional applications designed for your device were found! whats going on???
just a quick, possibly dumb, question...does it overwrite this folder (with the pin#) everytime you do it? would this cause any problems? im asking because i recently updated to .151, before i did so i backed up all my apps using this method, but when i go to restore, not everything in the folder appears in the reload screen, namely meterberry. this wasnt much of a problem because i just resent the download message from mobihand but i was just curious...
This method doesn't actually back the apps. All it does is create a list of apps in the alx file. The restore assumes that the corresponding apps alx's and CODs are in the same folder.
It uses the newly created file as a guide to which apps to load.

Would somebody please respond to this? I'm having the same problem. This isn't the first time I've done this but its the first time I can't get it to work.
