So are you not using the apploader? You will find it here: (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion). The AppLoader will find 5.0 if it is installed correctly.

I have DM v4.6.. do i have to upgrade my DM to higher version before I upgrade the OS? And if I use apploader.. do I still need DM to upgrade the OS or I just can upgrade the OS by clicking the apploader?

You can forget about the deletion of the vendor file, that's a pointless step that you don't need.

I always delete the vendor.xml file anyway because it has caused the OS not to install sometimes and also I would disconnect my computer from the internet while the OS is updating so it cannot tell that your PIN is Rogers and you are using the Bell update so it will not stop you. Hope that helps.

The vendor file has never caused the OS to not install, it just isn't possible. It must have been something else that you attributed to the vendor file.
