if the storm 3 (refresh storm 2) is getting os 6 is it possible that alot of it can be ported to the old (current) storm 2? using shrink os to get rid of the fluff and and fit it on. or is it more then just a memory issue

Not going to work. If you want BlackBerry 6 on a Storm you will need to update.
