What will the IT detect in this case? Do they get an alert when someone has an application that's not on the approved programs list? Or, will they see that the IT policy was restored? Or both? Or they get an alert after restoring the policy and then the BES detects the new program on the phone?

My phone came with a few 3rd party apps installed by IT, so they either have a list of approved programs they check against or don't check what's on the phone after first installation.

They will know when the IT policy is restored. Depending on what you want to install, you might be able to get approval to install it. An IT policy can be used to disable access to the media card, disable Bluetooth, and even in one case I read, only allow you to call numbers that were already in the contact list, and prohibited editing the contacts database. With that kind of access into the phone, it would not surprise me in the least to know that an IT manager in BES could see the individual apps installed on a phone, but I have not seen that confirmed anywhere.

In all of these discussions about removing an IT policy itself, it would be helpful to know whether the solution also permanently removes the locked firewall. I have the same question.

I have a company BB which has IT policy on it. IT is not being friendly for installing 3rd party applications.
I want to install a few applications but then be able to continue receiving corporate email etc. I'm thinking the following:
1. backup IT policy
2. remove IT policy
3. install 3rd party program
4. restore IT policy

Is there a way to do this? Can I restore the IT policy while retaining the 3rd party apps? Is there a way of doing all this without IT knowing?

It goes into more detail than just that also. You can find out the device's battery life, how long it's been since it's been rebooted, individual service books, all applications, modules, everything.

but yah.. most people think the BB is just a phone that gets email.. if it's connected to a BES, it's WAY more than that. the device can be crippled up the wazoo, it logs just about everything, so I'll say it once and for all for the noobs who are just starting to viewing this thread,

I followed the instructions and when I typed in the "ResetITPolicy" it would not work. Does this no longer work? I keep getting error messages and it does nothing. It says incorrect confirmation or operation aborted. What is that about?

I have tried about 10 different version of ways to remove the IT Policy and password for BEP with no success.

Can it be that it cannot be done? Any help would be great.

I have loaded the newest 4.5 version on the 8300.

Let me know what I can do before I pitch this in the toilet and use it for sewer bait.

After calling VZ, who conferred with RIM, VZ sent me the following link from RIM:

Follow METHOD 3. I used Method 3 and it was easy and worked flawlessly. There is no trace of the IT policy and the firewall is no longer locked.

The IT policy and firewall settings do not return when I later use DM. My BB is now in an out-of-the box condition, with the wonderful exception that when I used the above method, my third party apps were not removed. I had to re-register the apps, but at least I did not have to re-load the apps.

CrackIT may not be compatible with your OS. I can't see what you have on WAP. If you are trying to remove an IT policy, there are better methods. Did you try the steps shown in the posts above these?

CrackUtil is dangerous because it gives you the ability to remove files that are necessary for your device to operate. If you follow Pete's instructions exactly, you can use it to remove an IT policy and not damage anything.

i think CrackIT doesnt run on windows 7...i may try it on vista or xp because i really need to remove the "red padlock icon" from my password and firewall menu.

I just bought a new Bold 9700 and got it hooked up to my local cell company. 24 hrs later my BB was not activated yet and they kept sending and resending the Service books which I did not receive. I look through my bb and found that in the email setup it showed that it was set to Enterprise which is probably the reason why it does not work.


Edit: I just did this with Crack Util
* You need CrackUtil or JL_Cmder installed on your PC.
* Sync your phone and do a Backup before starting.
* Once this is done, shut down Desktop Manager.
* Run CrackUtil. From the Advanced sereen screen Reset IT Policy and then wait until the phone has re-booted.
* Do a Restore and you should now see that the Firewall (Options, Security
* Options, Firewall) now has no little red lock against it.

When I go into Email Setup I get a message saying "Your Email account is already activated for Enterprise use".

When I go into Options- Sec- Firewall I see no locks.
Firewall Status is Disabled
BIS and Enterprise Mail says 0 blocked and is unchecked.


Does this mean its still locked to Enterprise? Any other ideas?Thanks.

That's a BES device that had the IT Policy removed.

All you need to do is wipe it, go to Settings - Options - Security Options - General Settings, push the BB button in and select Wipe Handheld and just follow the prompts.

I have a newby question. I just received my new company blackberry. The first two days it wasn't activated and i used it just as a mobile phone. I started installing applications on it and was happy to be able to have it activated on our BES after the avalable licenses had been increased. After the activation i found out I couldn't install any third party applications anymore, while the ones i installed before activation still work great.
I am currently trying to have the it policy changed for at least one app (BBTask Pro). But i'm not convinced i'll manage this.
Is it possible with this tool to wipe the it policy, install all needed aplications and re-activate on the BES server myself afterwards. This way installing apps, while the IT policy is active when i'm on the BES?

If you are denied changes to the policy it would be unwise to try to evade it as you plan. You say it's a company phone, so the company has the absolute right to decide how you use it. Most likely your defiance will be detected with an obvious risk to your employment - BES servers can log and report almost everything about the device.
