- It's a double edged sword. As long as you always disconnect before and app mods, you'll be fine. If you downgrade the DM, you will loose the OS, and have to reinstall it again. There's a way around it I believe, but that I haven't ever investigated. Your Bold should run quite well, do you have a lot of 3rd party apps on it?08-18-09 10:51 AMLike 0

http://forums.crackberry.com/f132/95...hybrid-263404/08-20-09 04:27 AMLike 0 - I must say, iam a newbie with bb but I don't understand the procedure in how to upgrade.
I understand how to back up the phone but when it comes to these steps:
# Install new OS .exe file.
# Plug phone back into PC and let drivers install.
# Launch DM and proceed with update of OS.
# Make sure you pick Backup Data and Apps (including Messages) during the backup!!!
# DO NOT under any circumstance unplug the phone or use the PC while the update is in progress. Do not let screen saver kick in either.
# Unplug and use phone ONLY once the upgrade procedure states that it's finished by the DM update software on the screen.
I'm lost. For anyone that could help me I just bought an unlocked att 4.2.2.166 and rogers is my carrier.
I really want 4.5 so that I can download the majority of themes available.
Thanks08-21-09 10:24 AMLike 0 -

- jeffhRetired ModeratorI can't point you to an old OS, but I can positively assure you there is no benefit whatsoever to installing an older OS solely for the purpose of upgrading it. If you want to rebuild your OS, just use JL_Cmdr to remove the current OS and reload it.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-01-09 08:43 PMLike 0 - I need to be able to switch to the "Roam Only" feature on my Blackberry. I had to get a new curve which comes pre loaded with 4.5 OS. I need 4.3 OS. I have spent 5 hours at the Sprint store and they can not figure out how to downgrade the software. I've also spent at least 8 hours on my own. Nothing works. Help me please.11-04-09 07:12 PMLike 0

Also, turn off the internet before attempting, and use loader.exe instead of DM itself. Go to program files->common files->research in motion->apploader->loader.exe11-05-09 10:45 PMLike 0

11-14-09 10:25 PMLike 0 - LOL nice subliminal correction there.
Yes I didnt select it because it looked like I was to come back and add that after the wipe, similar to coming back and selecting what to remove or add back in after the os is in there.
I have crackutil and jl_cmder and used the latter on my 8220 so might use that again on this 8900 and then (asking) come back and use crackmem to install the OS and edit other features?11-14-09 10:42 PMLike 0 - I'm not sure CrackMem will work for your 8900. Try it, and if not, then use this I'll link below. It's a conflicted program, while it removes much more than CrackMem, it doesn't remove everything CrackMem does either. I always use both, but I'm using them on a 4.5 OS device too. Of course you really don't have much worry about file free on an 8900 either, so it's up to you.
11-14-09 11:42 PMLike 0 - I used JL awhile back on my 8220 and it went real smooth. I thought I'd give one of these others a try but didnt catch the steps on this threads tool and then crackmem...well would be cool if they put "error 507 your phone" or something; the 'wipe apps' and 'wipe files system' for some reason doesnt sound like it wipes the entire thing. Then putting the OS back on, I ran the Application program from within DM (but didnt go through with the install) and then tried clicking the app loader executable in the common files/rim folder and they came back with different install items and options. Dont know what the diff. was.
I'll look at the one you posted.
Just wish there was a step by step program that went:
1. erase/wipe device
2. install OS
3. edit OS
Thanks for taking the time replying, I appreciate it11-14-09 11:50 PMLike 0 - I used JL awhile back on my 8220 and it went real smooth. 11-15-09 12:03 AMLike 0 - Oof. So there's these to choose from for reloading the OS (and probably more):
Shrink A OS
CrackUtil
CrackMem
JL Cmder
BB's App Loader.exe
Have you tried these all? I have use the app loader in BB's folders, and also JL Cmder. Looked at the ShrinkAOS and looked like it left a few choices off of what to leave out. I also left Docs to Go IN and when I hit Shrink, I checked the Removed folder and Docs to go was in there, so I think I will skip that one.
Can I use this crackmem to reinstall with the OS after wipin with JL Cmder?11-15-09 12:54 AMLike 0
