Yes, you read the title correctly. I'm wondering if it's possible to back up my information on a NEWER OS 7 Bold 9900 and restore that information to an OLDER OS 4.5 Pearl 8120? Are the backups backwards compatible? Does it matter which version of Desktop Manager I use? I just feel like using my Pearl for a little while, but would like to transfer all my contacts, memos, pictures, etc. Thanks in advance!
I tried to go from OS6 back to OS5... and it didn't work. Luckily it was a new installation and I still had my old OS 5 Backup and restored it.
But never hurts to try....
You *might* be able to depending on the OS on the 9900 and the Desktop Manager you are using, but I really doubt it. Early versions of DM7 did NOT encrypt the backup, so you could at least pull your files from it. Also, try device switch rather than backup/restore.
Thanks guys. Using device switch on Desktop Manager 7.1 seemed to work. There were a couple of errors, as I expected, since it was trying to copy some things that don't even exist on the earlier OS. But the important stuff, my contacts, memos, etc. transferred over just fine!
