    Right,
first of all this is my first post, so hello all.
my question is this, i'm comfortable with my blackberry (my 3rd curve now) although i wouldn't regard myself as a geek, but im wondering
a.) when the **** is os 5 going to arrive officially?
    and
b.) is it worth upgrading to one of the leaked versions in the meantime?

i can handle the odd glitch and crash, but not if its a regular occurance.

i'm guessing most of this has been asked before, so please go easy on me.

    Dave

a.) When it passes all the testing, not only with RIM, but with several providers.

b.) Totally up to you... read the postings about each OS version in the BETA OS Forum... but some advice: know how to upgrade AND downgrade your OS before you attempt this... if you don't know how to downgrade your OS and what's involved in that don't do it.

So what's wrong with the operating system currently on your new BlackBerry? Probably nothing, right? If I were you, I would use my new BB for a while before I entertained any notion of upgrading to OS 5 BETA operating system and all of it's current quirks and idiosyncracies. Keep your life simple, dude.....

One thing to note is the betas are basically official. The just haven't been picked up by a provider. There will be no difference between 5.0.0.238 beta and official

Have now installed .348, and to be honest if I'd known it was this easy I would have done it ages ago.

So far the .348 is working very well, no reboots so far. I don't remember which 5.0 I had on the 9000 but it rebooted at least 6 times a day, no bueno. I say give it a try and if you don't like it you can always go back to your previous OS.

So I'm not to software smart myself, so I was curious to know what's the difference with the OS 5.0 software and the 4 6 1 231 software I'm running on my 8900? And is the OS 5 release that suppost to come out for the 8900 gonna be the same as the 9700 OS 5 software?

you should research it in the beta OS forums...but heres the short list off the top of my head.

threaded SMS, faster boot times (1:30-2 mins), faster autofocus/picture taking, new menu items, vibe+ring at the same time...cant remember any more.

and yes, OS 5.0 looks the same across all platforms.

Same here, updated to .348 last night and it's fast, stable and booting up my phone takes less than 10 seconds. Oh and threaded sms is a lifesaver.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it, now I'm just curious if it worth it to down load the OS 5 in Beta or wait for the release of the Official OS 5. Does anyone know when and if it will ever happen? Cause it sounds like when that comes out only differences really betyween 8900 and 9700 r trackpad and keypad and 3G right?

gaaah you guys are making me cry. cant use .348 cuz of an issue with ATT. 314 still pretty good though, exept for a couple of bugs here and there. i still love it, no regrets from upgrading from 4.6.1.348

I'm eager for the official 5 OS, but lately the leaked versions have been tempting me... but honestly, there isn't anything wrong with my current official version, so I can wait longer, I suppose.
