For install instruction to load any carrier 8900 OS on your BB:

    1. Download desired OS to your PC
    2. Install/run OS to PC
    3. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

Is there anyway to preserve my icon arrangement order and settings and things of that nature while upgrading?

It all gets restored when you upgrade. The only thing you might experience problems when restoring is your calendar appointments.

    NO problems so far.
The only app that was giving me problems was Mobil Checkbook by Mobatech, but that was fixed instantly when I emailed them.
A great company, problem solved even though it's a Beta OS.

All the releases are betas until a phone carrier decides to post the OS on their website.
Their is no research that goes into which OS is worth being chosen. Once a carrier posts it on the website we here on CB consider it now an official release. Techinically they're all betas or officials, however you wanna see it.

The 101 lectures are your friend, check them out. I have a link to them in my signature and you can also find the link at any time through the "Blackberry Help" menu option at the top of every page here at Crackberry.

    one thing i don't understand...
two days ago i read on the crackberry site that version 5.0 has leacked and now i read for the version .239. Who would be interested to do a downgrade???

why is this upgrade after all available and what are the benefits if ver 5 is on the waiting line!

maybe i am wrong or can someone clear me this thing!

The 5.0 OS that are available now are early BETA versions and very buggy..... Some issues with BT sets not working and a lot of the apps that people use will not work either.

If you check out the 5.0 threads you will see what people are saying about it. I know of one person that loves the 5.0 and has stayed on it. Hundreds of others have had to roll back for various reasons. That is a satisfaction rating of 1% or lower... not good.
