because we dont have the official .exe from RIM we have to use a previously installed OSs folder to overwrite the files, otherwise if we were to just create a folder like 9900-7.1.0.342 for example it wouldn't detect that

Going by what you've posted here, you'll be quickest/easiest to use method 3, using the .267 folder to install

If I understand correctly, method 1 allows you to install this firmware just as you would any other version without the need of a base OS.
If that is the case, why would you even consider methods 2 and 3?
Would someone care to explain this to me?

In method 1, what base OS is being used?

    Thanks!

You are correct, but for some this may not work (Although I've not heard of it, I prefer to provide alternatives if it were to occur, which hopefully answers why method 2/3 are included)

All methods use the full .342 folder (UMTS folder, Java folder, and all .alx files) as was provided to me
Only changes I've made is to include my shrinking tool BBH Tool (and any files it requires)

Great! Thank you very much for your response. I will try method 1 first.

Yeah - it has NFC for T-Mobile USA

It did delete all my saved wifi networks though.

UPDATE: It seems the backup didn't back up all the wifi profiles correctly so I restored them from an earlier backup

Showed bundle 999 in DM when I'm prompted to upgrade.

Post upgrade shows bundle 1149 in both DM and on phone. Hmmm.

Seems to work OK. Version and Platform show OK too.

    Installed as "no base".

Some chinese characters change to blocks now. Am I missing anything? For sure I didn't shrink chinese language support.

    Updated over 284.

    Thanks.

Edit: Wiped the phone and installed with no base. Everything works fine.

    Many thanks!

I'll confirm the size before I restore my data, then after it's been restored.

    Installed over .284 | shrunk | loaded

My OS was approx. 78 MB after shrinking

.342 is extremely snappy & so far seems a good batt life ... but its too soon now

Overall, this is quite snappy. It's just the ads that're causing the browser to lag, damn those ads. Long live the day where a host file can be made to block those nuisenses. Turning off javascript works best.

I completely wiped, then restored a backup I made earlier excluding allot of unneeded databases. I forgot to exclude entrypoint settings. But man, that improves a ton! It's faster and boots quicker too!

Could you please list which databases are "unneeded"?

Is this a leaked or hybrid OS? Just before you begin the install it says...

Click "Start" to install OS 7.1.0.342 for 9900 and begin your Hybrid experience.

I think it says hybrid experience because of the BBH tool that is included....could be wrong, just my 2 cents though lol

    Leaked .342 (dis ain't a hybrid) ...

Note : In the event of the absence of a fully functional installer that would normally install the .342 properly on your PC, we are having to use roundabout methods to get this to install on the PC.

Once its on your PC, its a perfectly normal OS - just like any other leaked or official OS.

    Hope this explains.
