Leaked OS 7.1.0.205 for BlackBerry Torch 9810 Findings and Fixes
-
For the record, I never had problems with 7.0.0.261, .353 or .583. Any other leak/release, including all 7.1, cause touchscreen issues for me.
What's quite strange is that, even with touchscreen problems, Hard Rock Casino has always worked flawlessly. Things that make you go, "hmmmmm..."01-21-12 11:10 AMLike 0 - Yeah........0.0.261 was very buggy for me. Turns out most of my problems installing were firewall related. Followed all the directions you guys gave me and the loader didn't recognize the update. Disabled firewall and mcafee and it worked like a charm. i'm a semi-newbie but understand enough to know this SHOULD be working. Tried disabling virus software as a last resort. Glad it worked.01-21-12 11:43 AMLike 0
- Well I updated my 9810 right away and here's my take:
Plugged in to comp and in DM did full backup. Then on phone went to set up and did switch devices and saved to my memory card. Then close DM, uninstall old 9810 from comp. Install new one.
Run jlcomander and wipe phone (instructions can be found on cb with a search). When screen shows you the 507 error all is good.
Now open DM, and update to new soft, do restore in DM, then restore in device switch from memory card.
I find this os to be very, very fast. Everything is smooth and so nice to use. Hotspot worked right away for me. Pre paid bell in canada. Instant setup of my email, I did nothing.
Only issue I have seen is when I use the swipe between messages the message I swipe away from always gets a red x. Still looking into it. Its a gmail account with a mostly default setup through bis.

- I've been happy with this os. Here's my take from my usage. I installed it the day it leaked. This review also applies to my wife's 9860.
I do not use the hotspot option. I wanted the bug fixes and improvements that generally come with a new os.
I agree that the browser seems to bring up regular pages better, and I've noticed a slight decrease in loading times on my local newspapers.
All of my apps carried over and work fine. Spotify has less connection issues (that cursed skipping sound); pandora works fine with no marked improvement; youmail checks messages faster when you open and downloads then quicker; bebuzz restored my back up and works the same as it always has; and I see a lot less of the hourglass when multi-tasking.
Battery life is a debate I generally dislike since it varies from user to user, but a lot of people want to know about it. When I'm using my phone, the battery drains about the same as .190. When I have it locked and in my pocket, it is using a lot less power than before. At work, I used to drop sixty percent in a day, now I'm averaging around forty-five percent (I use six tools). My wife is a stay at home mum and her usage varies more than mine. She noticed her phone lasts longer when she isn't using it (also using sixtools).
I still have the phone drop to gprs when I'm on a voice call. That annoys me because I do use data when on the phone (this why I stick with at&t). I had that problem on my 9800 and it has never gone away. It's random, which makes me think it's carrier related but I figured it was worth mentioning.
That's about it for this long winded rant. Hope it helps someone.

Can you or someone explain exactly in what way the browser brings up regular pages better? Clearer? Easier to expand? Better format?
I have 190, am happy with it, think the battery life could be improved a little, but I have a spare battery and rarely have to use it, so that doesn't matter too much to me.
Every time I upgrade--and I've done it dozens of times over the years--it consumes at least a couple of hours and a fair amount of effort in terms of getting the settings back to where they were and configuring and/or re-registering the third party apps. At this point I want to see a significant improvement before spending that time and effort.
Going from 7.0.0.540 to 7.1.0.190 was definitely worth it for me. I wonder whether going from 190 to 205 would be, and am inclined to wait for another leak or maybe even an official AT&T 7.1 release (which realize could be sometime in the next millennium).01-21-12 09:02 PMLike 0 - Anyone notice that in the on screen keyboard the j isn't centered?
P.S. My Torch lags more than in .195... Not a big deal though.01-22-12 12:43 AMLike 0 - Anyone else getting this with this leak? It does this on every website and don't know how to get rid of it.

01-22-12 06:38 AMLike 0 - My newspaper sites load faster even with all of the ads they have. I check them everyday so I have noticed the difference right out of the gates. Double tap to zoom seems to be a little easier and scrolling seems better to me.
Data in general had a big improvement for me. I use spotify a lot, and I've been able to do more web browsing while listening to streaming music (set to high quality).
I have lost bis a few times since my last post. If I disconnect from the network and reconnect, it works fine again. It's a random loss, and happens mostly before 530am EST. I'll blame AT&T for now since no one else has mentioned this.01-22-12 07:22 AMLike 0 - My newspaper sites load faster even with all of the ads they have. As for battery life, that can be somewhat subjective and vary from user to user. But you impress me as pretty objective. So are Mecca El and some others. The ones I check their answers, are either not going to make huge changes between versions or are savvy enough to mention when they do. So, I'm comparing you to you, etc. Even a subjective opinion can be helpful, using that basis.01-22-12 09:22 AMLike 0 - I have noticed a small blue "caret" upside down triangle in the bottom right corner of the screen that won't go away until rebooting the device. Appears to be a scroll icon, even when there is nowhere to scroll down too. It is not a screen issue as it maintains same position on screen regardless of phones orientation; it will move with the rest of the screen. I did find a thread about it in a 9900 forum: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...corner-688478/

01-22-12 12:38 PMLike 0 - update on battery life.
those who have seen my other battery posts have seen that for as long as i've had my 9810, using 540, 585, 74, hybrids, and 190, my battery has drained, fairly consistently at 10-20%/hour.
using this build, i have now gone 22 hours since last charge and still have 55% remaining. way better than any build i've had on my 9810 (or 9800).
granted, it is a weekend day, so the workweek will be a much better test. Even so, even weekends have never been so good. for example Friday-Saturday night drained at about 15%/hour. Something changed yesterday afternoon. i have to figure out what it was.Mecca EL likes this.01-22-12 12:47 PMLike 1 - My newspaper sites load faster even with all of the ads they have. I had this a few days ago, I did a battery pull and it was gone.
I am thinking it is time for a wipe, reinstall, and fresh install of all of my apps. I do not know if it is the OS or the fact that my apps have not been updated for OS 7.1. They work, but are they written for this OS? No....01-22-12 02:39 PMLike 0 - My newspaper sites load faster even with all of the ads they have. And unfortunately - Mecca and myself have both tried getting around this by accessing the engineering screen, but it does not work.
As I also previously posted -your device will "autoswitch" down to EDGE if you are in a very RSSI environment, or if you are in an area where the network does not support the "4G" speeds.cntrydncr223 and Mecca EL like this.01-22-12 10:45 PMLike 2 - im getting this message when i goto download from fileserve?
