Leaked OS 7.1.0.190 for BlackBerry Torch 9860 Findings and Fixes
- Battery life is back to to about a day. Took it off the charger around 8am and by 5pm I have 20%. When I was using 540 I was at 50-60% around this time.
But the tethering makes a world of difference as I have better use for my Android tablet whereever I go.01-09-12 05:41 PMLike 0 - I think we all need to remember that this is a leaked OS. RIM still needs to finalize some things, evidently they know as well as we do that this build may not be ready for the consumer market. At this point it seems that the only 'real' reason one would have for upgrading to this is for the mobile hotspot feature.
Keep sharing folks, we may find something interesting.01-09-12 05:53 PMLike 0 - "let it settle in" is bogus...this something some one created and it has spread...all that is occurring is you have done several battery pulls over the course of a few days...so it "appears" that things are changing due to "settling in" when in fact, you've done the battery pulls that you didn't do after upgrading...
I have never noticed any "settle in period". i just do 3-5 consecutive battery pulls after installing it....01-09-12 05:56 PMLike 0 - "let it settle in" is bogus...this something some one created and it has spread...all that is occurring is you have done several battery pulls over the course of a few days...so it "appears" that things are changing due to "settling in" when in fact, you've done the battery pulls that you didn't do after upgrading...

Its kinda the same thing, except that you seem to do it all in one go, where as some people do it over a couple of days. What happens during the 3-4 consecutive battery pulls that stabalizes the battery drain rate?
Thanks!01-09-12 07:09 PMLike 0 - lol, from my experience...it helps run the battery down so that when your done...do a recharge...
I don't know where the "settle in" came from...but nothing is going to "settle in"...its not like a new pair of shoes that you have to break in...
I'm sure some one will jump on here and say they are the all knowing and settling in does exist...but think about it...does it really even make sense?
I work on multi million dollar aircraft, when we load new software... there's no settling in period....so why would a mobile device require one? (but we do several system restarts after..sort of like the battery pulls)...01-09-12 07:27 PMLike 0 - also...the battery pulls are just to reboot the device...the battery drain rates are not going to change....they either are good or bad....depends on a variety of factors...what apps you have running on start up (facebook, twitter, ect) that will drain the battery at a faster rate...
so to simplify it all, it either works, or it doesn't...TTBGF likes this.01-09-12 07:33 PMLike 1 -
- So, i called rogers and the rep checked my account and confirmed that I do have tethering/hotspot enabled with my 6gb plan, but no matter what I do when i try to startup the hotspot I still get "contact your wireless provider and subscribe to a mobile Hotspot dataplan". Anyone got any ideas?01-09-12 08:09 PMLike 0

- Oh sorry guess i should have been a little more specific When i click on the mobile hotspot option from the manage connections dropdown, it starts to connect up, but then fails after a second or two and has the error "Activation Required - To use this feature, contact your wireless service provider and subscribe to a mobile hotspot plan"01-09-12 09:23 PMLike 0
- Try turning off ur wifi or moving away from a registered wireless source, that worked for me with the 1 GB data package from Rogers, only problem I have is my PlayBook is unable to authenticate the network

Any ideas? Thanks01-09-12 10:07 PMLike 0 - Gave me a 507 error the first time I installed it. Used BBSAK to wipe the device then Loader to re-load the OS. BBSAK can't detect the 7.1 OS installed on my Windows 7.
Didn't have any memory leaks, but the battery stopped charging at around 80% and showed it's already full battery. Well, that was prior to my first pull batt. Will monitor in the coming days.
Battery life seems more stable compared to .585.01-10-12 01:23 AMLike 0 - Wow! This update did NOT go well with my device... Kept getting "uncaught exception java.lang.nullpointerexception" Error
What it would do is Load the OS but i would be locked out of everything with the error showing up and my radio turned off. Not sure what would cause this but I did shrink the OS. I wiped the device each time i tried installing 7.1 with same error. went back to 474 and all is fine....
I will try again tonight to see what happens01-10-12 04:47 AMLike 0 - I updated last night with no issues whatsoever.
I have an unlocked Rogers 9860 running on the Telus network. I have the 6GB data plan and hotspot works great for me.
I like the little added features like the @ symbol and .com on the keyboard when entering some required info.01-10-12 07:28 AMLike 0 - Installed last night also. I installed without wiping first nor shrinking, just went over top of my 7.0.
Seems more hourglass prone than 7.0.0.540 that I was running previously but otherwise it seems to be running well. All apps are working (I have about 30 installed), except STMI for 7.0 doesn't seem to be working (it runs fine, just doesn't seem to do it's job).
Mobile Hotspot is there but was disappointed to see no UMA options which I was looking forward to the most. Makes sense as I think this is not a Rogers-destined leak.01-10-12 09:00 AMLike 0
