when i receive a .vcf contact card over bbm. i can add it to my contacts, view it there and edit it. but after a while the contact disappears from my contact list and cannot be found.
If i dial the number again after the contact disappears once the call ends the name reappears in the call log but not in the contacts.

has anyone experienced this and has any advice on how to fix it?

You may be saving the contact to another contact list on your device.

Open the Contacts screen and hit the BB (Menu) key and select Select Contact List. Make sure Show all Contact Lists is checked.

You may also be saving your incoming contacts to your SIM card. Check there as well.

there's nothing in the sim contact book, and the filters are not activated so it is showing all the contacts on the phone
