Has anybody made more progress on a .746 full swap or hybrid? I wonder if full swap won't be possible - if the new .746 LED features would require an updated radio too. I may try pulling a few pieces over, see if I can identify any "works" and "doesn't work" items.

Can only speak for the 9900 but the .746 Java does work with an older .sfi (.714) if that helps you at all.

I admit I am not a java expert - in fact barely know what I am doing. I took the .746 java and put it on top of .714 and left the CDMA radio in. I get an error when doing the update after the shrink. Something to the effect "can't proceed without files for email setup." Anybody know what I'm doing wrong. I've done the vendor.xml search and registry clean stuff in advance.

I got the same message. I even re-downloaded both .649 (my base for my 9930) and .746 (thinking maybe one of the files were corrupted) and same deal.

I installed .746 and shrunk first to get the Java, deleted with Revo Uninstaller, rebooted and installed .649. Tried a few more times trying to tweak my shrinking, and eventually bricked my phone... awesome.

So its not like were updating with both OSs installed on the computer and it gets confused somehow.. .649 was the only thing there, except for a few cod files from .746. idk

Trying the "Fix for nuked/bricked 9930" thing now. fingers crossed

Question: When I install 7.1.0.649 on my desktop, control panel shows it to be 406MB. The download shows to be only 275MB. When I install the hybrid over .649, control panel still shows 406MB, I have removed and reinstalled it twice. Don't want to mess up here so someone please advise.

Welcome back to irtehun. I have used his hybrids for many years and personally think there is none better. Thanks,

After trying BL Returns, I learned how to make a .746 Java Swap work.

I was able to get a .746 Java Swap to work on the 9930 by injecting a couple additional files. Later I added these to Platform.alx and reloaded successfully again. Everything is working OK for me now.

In BL returns, they say you need to add net_rim_bb_phone_qchatptt_resources.cod to Platform.alx. That wasn't sufficient. I was getting the same 602 errors at the end of bootup that I was getting with a full .746 swap.

These are the other files I injected that were present in the 9900/.746 Platform.alx that weren't present in the 9930/.649 Platform.alx.

I'm not sure if they are all necessary, I did it all at once.

    net_rim_bb_phone_qchatptt_resources.cod
    net_rim_escreen_repository.cod
    net_rim_bb_virtual_keyboard_layout480x640.cod
    net_rim_nuance.cod
    net_rim_speech.cod
    net_rim_speech_data_en_US.cod

If somebody wants to troubleshoot, I'd start with just net_rim_bb_virtual_keyboard_layout480x640.cod maybe. This was kinda odd:

    On 9900/.746: net_rim_bb_virtual_keyboard_layout480x640.cod
    On 9930/.649: net_rim_bb_virtual_keyboard_layout360x480.cod

I left net_rim_bb_virtual_keyboard_layout360x480.cod from .649 on the phone too.

I loaded the hybrid over .649 and installed on my 9930 without any problems. Battery life seems the same as .580 (which was good), all apps are loaded and are working properly, and transitions are prompt and smooth. Signal seems about the same as .580 in my fringe area. Thanks for a good hybrid.

The device will not turn off and on at the set times. It seems to turn off but pressing any key turns it back on immediately. The battery drains about 20% from 11pm to 6am with the device showing to be off. Any ideas?

These are the two you need to add to Platform.alx or to inject manually, for a full java swap with the 9930's .649 or .755 as base+radio SFI along with a 9900's .746 or .794 java.

    net_rim_bb_phone_qchatptt_resources.cod
    net_rim_bb_virtual_keyboard_layout480x640.cod

    The process is simple:

    1) Install 9930 OS 7.1.0.649 or 7.1.0.755 (I'm using .755)
    2) Install 9900 OS 7.1.0.746 or 7.1.0.794 (I'm using .794)

Copy all of the files from the 9900 "Java" folder into the 9930 "Java" folder, replacing everything there. Leave the other files from the 9930 there too.

Add these to the 9930 Platform.alx, copying all of the other .cods in the file.

    net_rim_bb_phone_qchatptt_resources.cod
    net_rim_bb_virtual_keyboard_layout480x640.cod

    Then run Loader.

Or the ghetto version of the process: Don't bother adding them to Platform.alx. Just do the java swap and run Loader. After it backs up the phone, wipes it, and loads the new OS, it will reboot. While it's rebooting, Loader will say "reconnecting ... this may take a few minutes" before it tries to reload your data. While it's rebooting ... inject both files using BBHTool. The phone will reboot again, but Loader won't be interrupted ... when the phone finishes rebooting, Loader will detect it and restore your data.

Or at least, that worked for me. I figured the worst case was that Loader would miss it and I'd have to restore using BB DM.
