Thanks for that All working on my 8900. However the IMEI display works on the phone, not the home screen, but I have 'dial numbers from home screen' switched off.

You need to return it to whatever carrier is on the case.

That's correct, and that's the way it is supposed to work. And for a quick hint, you don't come to BlackBerry owners and expect that we're going to help you cheat someone out of their device. That's like going to a police station to complain that the TV you stole doesn't work.

i dont understand what the codes are used for though. for example the code to soft reset... same effect as holding down the power button correct?

What not to understand? Each one serves a purpose of some sort. Powering your phone will just do that, power off your phone. Turning it back on the same way will turn back on in less than 20 seconds. The soft resets resets the phone, where you will see the black screen and the progress bar moving towards completion of booting up. Takes anywhere from 2-5 minutes. This resets the memory, fixes any bugs/errors etc.

I have found 2 codes on my BlackBerry Bold 9000. I am not sure if these will work for everyone but you should give them a try.

    [alt] [Right Shift] [U]
brings up some sort of options menu that includes:
    - Dump Screen
    - Time Keystrokes
    - Repaint Screen
    - Time Repaint
    - Dump Cache Stats
    - Clear Cache Stats

    [alt] [Right Shift] [V]
brings up some sort of OS debugging menu that is probably one of the core parts of the OS because it is not like any other BlackBerry menu I have ever seen.
