i would try it out haha
I remember an occasion I went went swimming for a day and I forgot, until a couple hours later, I had my phone in my pocket. I got lucky, taking the same steps as you, and the phone "WORKED"!! (at least for a few months LOL) Fortunately, by the time it dried I had already purchased a new phone. bb of course. I saved a laptop and I lost a laptop using the same method (time dry).
The way that's listed sounds good and obviously worth a try. Unless someone has a magical "stay dry".
I forgot-I want to thank Mr. McCracken for posting these steps. Again it sounds like a great way to save a phone or other device.
I've successfully done this for 8 phones prior to reading this post (even on non blackberry phones). This is a great write up and just want to appreciate the time it took for you to put this together.
Great work!
Put your phone in a zipper seal Ziploc bag and leave it there! =)
Will the 'swishing' in alcohol void the warranty? My phone wasn't submerged in water, just in a humid environment, and I am still thinking of bringing it in if it doesn't work in five days and I don't want to void the warranty due to WDI's when it is placed in alcohol.
Thanks,
Lauren
I dropped my Berry in the toilet last night. I bet it wasn't in there but a few seconds before I pulled it out. I immediately pulled the battery and SD Card out and let it sit overnight. This morning I put that battery in and attempted to send a text message but every time I started to type the phone would jump to my contacts and dial miscellaneous numbers. After about a hour it started to function normally but later in the day when I tried to access a contact in my phone book it kept typing miscellaneous letters.
Do you guys think I should have let it sit for a full day vs overnight? I think the keyboard is the only part of the phone that was affected by the water being that my phone has a silicone skin on it. I just hope it doesn't get worse because lord knows I don't want to pay $100 deductible for another bb, especially when I only paid $25 for this one.

Not that it's helpful now.. but you really should have left it at least 2-3 days.
I'd shut it down pull the battery and leave it out to dry another day or two.
Although since you've powered it up it might be toast..
I figured since no water appeared to be under the screen or behind the camera lens that it wasn't that bad. I did use the blow dryer (cool setting) on it for about 30 mins when it first happened, not sure if it made a difference or not. Oh well, *keeping fingers crossed*

i spilled coffee and tried to turn it on numerous times. it works sometimes and suddenly stops completely. i need help
Just another idea for drying... Any vehicle with air conditioning, uses the A/C on defrost setting to dry the air, before heating and blowing on the window. This air is easy to control temp of and extemely dry. Of course you'd have to run your vehicle, but if you drive lots, its probably the best.
Also, alcohol does not 'displace' water, it absorbs water. And since it has a lower boiling point, it then evaporates faster. Simply put it speeds up the dry time. Keep in mind the trackpad row of buttons on a 9900 are glued on, and alcohol will dissolve that glue until the alcohol is completely removed or evaporated.
Calcium chloride stuff used for ice melt sucks up moisture works great
well I dropped my 9900 in a salt water, it sat in it for a good 15 seconds before I realized it. The was screen still on and video from youtube still playing then I pulled it out and took the battery out. the back of the phone is dry inside. then i hit the keyboard(push the keys) a few times to get that water out. then i took it and let it sit in rice for 2 hours. being the crackberry addict i am i had to turn it on so i did everything worked alright aside from the fact 15 mins into using it the trackpad was flickering so i put it back in the rice until the next day(it was 2am at this point) then I put everything back together and it was completely fine!
My partner ended up putting his Curve 9320 through the washing machine. I put it in rice to dry out completely for a week. Most things work fine on the phone now, the only thing wrong is it won't connect to the network. It's on 3 but keeps trying to connect to vodafone and o2??? Help please!!

Great info, wish I'd known this on Tuesday as my phone fell in a mop bucket. Took the battery out as soon as I had de-submerged it and place outside in the sun to try a little.
Now, three days later, after being rice'd, all now back up and running - with the exception of the camera which gives me the error:
Could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again
Needless to say, restarting the BB does not solve the problem - but if that is all that I will be missing until New Year I can live with that!
Great tips, many thanks. My daughter dropped hers in the garden pond and did almost what Hankser said and it works just fine!!
Well... mine went into the mop pail too. Yanked it out immediately
Pulled the battery immediately.
Found some 70% rubbing alcohol (in my province, that's all they sell over the counter because people drink it).
Poured alcohol into container. Dunked my Torch 9810 and swished for a second. Repeat. Maybe 3-4 seconds total.
Removed phone. Dried with towel. (Accidentally brain farted and shook phone to get water out of it when I took it out of the pail!)
Remembered to pull the media card - oops. Can't get the SIM card out - am hoping it will be okay.
Allowing to dry until at least Wednesday.
Am mildly concerned as the small plastic panel where the phone, back, blackberry and hangup buttons are seems to have come loose. Read elsewhere that's because the glue is not alcohol friendly. The rubber seems to be a little swollen. waterlogged.
When the phone dries completely, will it be possible to reattach this? I've left it in place for now, but am wondering if a few drops of crazy glue or something similar will be required?
Will let you know how it went on Wednesday.

ETA: Found tweezers to pull SIM card. Have turned phone keyboard side up in an attempt to keep panel that keeps popping off "in place"; when alcohol dries, hopefully will re-stick.
ETA: Small panel appears to be staying attached now that the foam is dry. Will try reassembly tonight after work, or perhaps tomorrow morning (it died on Sunday morning, so Friday morning will be five full days). Trying to be patient. Not bothering me as much as I thought it would except for missing being able to look up bus schedules.
ETA: Reassembled after four days, booted fine, but the screen appears milky / blotchy. Let it run long enough to pick up voicemail and clear messages, then took everything out again. Have wrapped in a knee-high nylon, then an ankle sock (do NOT want rice powder getting in my phone!!) and buried in a sealed tub of rice. Will leave on the window for a couple more days and see if it's better. (The panel popped off again, but I used a few dabs of crazy glue to reattach it at the edges where there's no contact film.)
ETA: Success!! Four days of open air, and three days wrapped in a knee high nylon and an ankle sock and buried in rice, but my phone is fixed. No more cloudy screen and everything seems to work fabulously. Thank you SO MUCH McKracken for the guide. (And the amusing sarcastic comments.)
What about brown rice or wild rice?
I laughed at the Booms part
