This is what you get when you highlight a chat, what you need to do is go into the Contacts "category" or wherever the contact is located. Then the menu will show "Show on Homescreen"
Highlight a contact (on your contact list, not in the chat), then hit the BB (Menu button) and scroll to 'Show on Home Screen'. It should ask you for a Save Location and give you the option of marking as favorite.

There you go.
There isn't an option to bring you straight to BBM chat, at least not on any current OS versions.

It does on mine (9930/OS7/BBM6.1). Whether there's an open chat or not with contact. It opens BBM then goes straight to chat mode, you can just start typing.
This also works with text messaging contacts you've added to BBM...
^^ I don't know about yours but mine from the homescreen it take me directly to the chat with the person.
Try updating your bbm if you don't have the latest version

You can, open the bbm chat in messages and when you want to exit to homescreen press the red end call button instead of the back button. When you open Messages folder again it will go straight into the bbm chat.
If you add a bbm contact to homescreen it also sends you straight to chat when you click on them.

If you click on someone from your BBM contact list, and you have an open chat with them, then clicking on the icon(wherever it is; Home, Favorites, Media, etc...) will open that chat screen. If you do not have a chat screen open with your contact, then hitting the icon will open a blank conversation window and then you can just type.
