I've lost some of my contacts. I do have backups but not sure how to open them.

The only way I can see is to use Blackberry Converter and that costs $25. Is there no free way to open my backups? I'd ideally like to open the contacts in an Excel file.

Unless you restore the backup to your phone possibly over writing some of your current entries, you will need to seek the assistance of third party software. One title you found already. Afraid to say that any free type of software will have limitations such as number of view-able contacts etc.

Yeah you need to use blackberry link to restore the backup to your phone. That will bring contacts with it. With that said, you should still have some stored on your sim for recovery.
