Hi, absolutely brand new to blackberry, I've purchased a second hand curve 8520 and put my SIM card into it. I'm on vodafone. When I add contacts on Blackberry Messenger, the contacts stay as pending and the people I've added don't see an invite. Not sure if it's something to do with CBS or something like that, I've read countless articles on loads of things and it's all a bit confusing! Please help!

Do you have a BB data feature? When you go into messages and press MENU, do you get an option that says "Compose PIN"

I do. It comes up saying 'Encoding: [Default], then below it there's 'To:' and 'Cc:'...

Compose a PIN to *******, if I receive then there is no issue with your provisioning. If I don't then there way be a carrier related error that you will need to call in about.

I no longer have any BB to assist with.....

I've sent it, it just appears to be pending, there's a clock with the pin next to it and the time on the right hand side. Do I just ring vodafone up then?

Looks like other provisioning issues then. I assume you updated the PIN ans IMEI on the BIS site rite?

Ha, no - as I said, I'm an absolute rookie at all this blackberry stuff, how do I do that, and what is BIS? Definitely going to look like an absolute ***** so I apologise for that!

Not at all. The BIS is the "Blackberry Internet Service" and your carrier will be different than mine. Mine is

BlackBerry Internet Service Yours would follow the same naming. Like BlackBerry Internet Service or BlackBerry Internet Service. So your may be www vodaphone.blackberry.com

Have you even registered on the RIM network, Go into Options->Advanced Options->Host Routing Table, press MENU then select "Register Now"

PS, wtf does this board keep changing Link Text.

I've just done that now, it just said 'registration message sent' and now *No Entries*. So I'm just on the BIS on my phone, will let you know what happens.

If you get no entries in the HRT then your not provisioned on that berry. A call is in order.

Wouldn't let me go very far on the BIS website, said the connection kept timing out and wouldn't display the page where you have to enter the pin and imei numbers properly. Shall I just give vodafone a call?

At this point I have no BB to test with anymore. I would say reviving a 3 year old dead thread but looks like I returned. I recommend calling your carrier for assistance.
