haven't removed any cods. i have however swapped out the game cods and clock cod. to match the phone resolution. and make clock work. haven't stripped out the the system whatsoever. and never said the phone was fully functional. i said the phone DOES WORK. but with glitches

i asked for insight. i didn't ask for arrogant crap.

and i seem to recall the steps i posted at the beginning of this thread explaining what i did.

i also posted a link to the file.it has the stock 8330 cdma radio file. not the 9700 gsm radio file

i'm using mostly the 9700 os. i've swapped the blackberry.alx AND platform.alx files from 8330. that's what it takes to get the 9700 to kick in and load. i'm using the loader.exe method to load up. NOT the desktop manager. i've deleted everything that said 480. (screen resolution for 9700) and replaced with 8530 files. there is also a clock.cod 480 i threw out. and replaced with clock.face.cod. (i think it was called). you need that to get rid of the clock error and make the clock work.

i've deleted all the precision theme cods. those were gsm carrier cods. put in the sprint theme.

i also threw out the umt folder and replaced with 8330 cdma folder. (i'm guessing that's the radio file that can brick your phone).

i've swapped out the PkgDBCache.alx. ((that gave triple email icons). so leaving stock 9700.
Yes, you did post the steps explaining what you did,
and what you did was create a Hybrid OS... simple as!

I apologise if my 'insight' came accross as 'arrogant crap'.
Get back to your garage, and keep up the good work

WHAT I HAVE DONE. is use the ENTIRE 9700 os. 5.0.0.405

there is no hybrid. there is no leaked. it's 100 percent stock and 100 percent official.

the internet kicks **** over anything i have had loaded so far. and the reboot times are 80 percent faster too.

if the rest of the world can do there own hybrid. i might as well have my own crack at it. it's too damn cold to work in the garage.

NOW, what part of this do yall NOT understand.

100 PERCENT 9700. and tweaking from there. it's loaded on the phone. and the phone DOES work.
What I DO NOT understand is why you think this is not a hybrid. What you have is a hybrid (See the bolded words). Even you said you are using the 8330 radio files as well as some others. That being said don't stop creating! you can use files from all types of phones as long as they are 5.0. One thing to keep in mind is you will need certain files to run themes that fit the screen. Who know you might come up with something really good. And as you said it's too cold outside to do anything.

Hate to pile on, but if you are using the 8330 radio file and then portions of the 9700 OS it's a hybrid.

If you attemped to load the 9700 radio on your 8330 the phone would not boot. No question about it. Especially given the fact that the 9700 is GSM and your 8330 is CDMA.

the radio folder is seperate from the os. it's not part of the os itself. swapping the game cods and one clock cod is all i've done so i really wouldn't call it a hybrid yet. i haven't even turned the stove on. i've just loaded it up to see what happens.

all you people getting upset just cuz someone wants to kill a little winter time with an experiment is ridiculous.

it's an os untill the os itself is changed. and right now nothing has been touched.

i asked for insight, not criticism. u want to criticise go find another thread.

i have a pc screen shot pasted in wordpad. so someone tell me how to post a wordpad document i'll be more then happy to show ya. i may be smart but i don't know EVERY trick in the book.

if anyone can show me how to post a pic on here. be glad to show what i've got.

edit::i tried using 8530 and 8520 to install but no heartbeat to kick in. and 9700 seems to have teh best battery life anyways.

loading the phone up was no big deal. getting an actual screen is the hold up now. instead of the black and white screen i get.

from what i've seen. phone still works. specially that internet and reboot. just need some color now. and a menu operation like the new phones. right now. it's stock home screen with all the icons on one screen. black and white.
Dude, you're using a hybrid. A really really hacked one at that. Just swapping out the radio file would qualify you as using a hybrid.

The only one being negative is YOU!!!

All we are pointing out is that you have created a Hybrid OS.

There's nothing wrong with that, just stop denying it and start admitting it man!

    Jeez

now you all can call it a hybrid. STOCK 9700 software. with the latest 8330 radio file.

9700 5.0.0.442 loaded on 8330 curve. fully functional.

I read through this whole thing because I guess I was confused in the beginning when you stated you loaded 9700 OS on an 8330. You stated that the .sfi (radio) file was NOT part of an OS, which is clearly not true. One could argue that the .sfi is actually the core of an OS, controlling most of the core functions of any OS. This is why it is commonly referred to as the base of any build.

To my knowledge, no one has ever loaded a radio file from one device onto another.

    Happy hybridizing!

just swapping the file won't do anything, you have to also change the Platform.alx or else it is loading the same file as before.
Check for yourself - open Platform.alx in word and it will show you (in the 8330 version) that the radio file is in CDMA/rim8330c.sfi while the 9700 file will show: UMTS/rim0x04001507.sfi

also, in your screen shot - you are using the latest 5.0 8330 radio (which is platform 3.5.0.44 - the radio for the 9700 OS would be platform 5.1.0.121) with the 9700's .442 - which means you're pretty much running a hybrid similar to the Nathanix one on here.
any which way you put it, you're making a hybrid. Not that that is a bad thing at all.
Also - you WILL NOT be able to load a radio from a device the radio is not intended for, even with swapping/renaming files.

Hope this helps ya, and again, I'm not hating or being negative. Just stating the facts for your knowledge
    Take er easy

Can install .sfi UMTS from 9900 to replace .sfi CDMA on 9930? If they are the same device, the only diference is that sfi file, CDMA to 9930 and UMTS to 9900, because I have a GSM network but not EDGE/GPRS on my 9930, plz can anyone tell what to do? I have sent emails to everybody but no answer.
    best regards
