i've managed to load the 9700 software on my curve 8330. and no i'm not a newbie loading my phone up.
i like the software from what i can see so far. the reboot times kick ****. and the internet is blazing fast compared to the stock and hybrids i've been running. that's sad that gsm software can surf the internet in a manner that cdma can't even think of.
the phone is loaded up. and working. but the screen has no themes. it's a black and white screen. with icon layout such same as the stock software.
i've been running hybrid on it. i like the theme and icon layout as to the new phones being sold these days. i've tried two different ways of using the sprint themes since that is the screen resolution. (8530). 1st way was to swap the themese before loading. second was to load THEN install theme cods. nothing seems to stick though.
this is a new hobby i've decided to play with since i'm on vacation in the middle of winter and kinda bored. so i don't know the good and bad's. so any lessons and insight are appreciated. as i stated. the reboot times and internet surfing kick ****. so it be cool if i could find a way to keep this os loaded on phone as compared to the stock.
would love to play around with. but i need some color and hopefully the icon and folder functionality of todays phones.
i can pic the home screen. haven't gotten the about to work yet. it's the only menu in option that don't wanna work yet. i had clock errors but got that fixed. still working on the rest.
if anyone can show me how to post a pic on here. be glad to show what i've got.
i'm using mostly the 9700 os. i've swapped the blackberry.alx AND platform.alx files from 8330. that's what it takes to get the 9700 to kick in and load. i'm using the loader.exe method to load up. NOT the desktop manager. i've deleted everything that said 480. (screen resolution for 9700) and replaced with 8530 files. there is also a clock.cod 480 i threw out. and replaced with clock.face.cod. (i think it was called). you need that to get rid of the clock error and make the clock work.
i've deleted all the precision theme cods. those were gsm carrier cods. put in the sprint theme.
i also threw out the umt folder and replaced with 8330 cdma folder. (i'm guessing that's the radio file that can brick your phone).
i've swapped out the PkgDBCache.alx. ((that gave triple email icons). so leaving stock 9700.
edit::i tried using 8530 and 8520 to install but no heartbeat to kick in. and 9700 seems to have teh best battery life anyways.
loading the phone up was no big deal. getting an actual screen is the hold up now. instead of the black and white screen i get.
from what i've seen. phone still works. specially that internet and reboot. just need some color now. and a menu operation like the new phones. right now. it's stock home screen with all the icons on one screen. black and white.
to post a picture, u gotta download captureit on your phone , then apply it to one of the side buttons, then click it to take pics of ur phone screen, and connect your phone to the computer to post them, see if it has threaded sms, the bedside clock, and all the new 5.0 features, i wanna try this, also do u have a 8330 or a 8330m?
i hit the prnt screen button and saved image to word pad. onlything i have to use. i have no way to save it to a image that this sight can pull up. or upload

What you have done is use the leaked base 5.0.0230 and added files from one of the 9700 OS. This is the same thing that you get in a hybrid, only you don't have all the usable/workable files operating. Because you don't have all the necessary files it will load faster. There are already working hybrids with .415 and .428 files out there such as Birdmans v7.
I admire you for trying, but I do have one question... WHY?
Why would you want to load an OS from a GSM phone onto a CDMA phone?
Why load an OS from a phone with a completely different screen resolution?
Why load an OS from a phone with a trackpad onto a phone with a trackball?
Why did you think you were surfing on GSM, on a CDMA phone? You weren't!
Why did you say the phone was 'loaded up and working' when it clearly isn't?
Call it what you like, but what you are attempting to create is a Hybrid OS...
You may have started with a 9700 OS, but you have removed several .cods and replaced them with others from a different OS
The internet may kick ****, but your still using CDMA and not GSM.
Reboot times will be quicker, because a chunk of your OS is missing!
Also, I don't believe for one moment that your phone is fully functioning... if it is, then show us some pics!
And don't give me that BS about you not knowing how. You're obviously a clever guy... so work it out!
