Plus, there's another way... The Gmail Filter
Well, there is indeed another alternative, and it's super simple, I promise. :)
On your PC, go to your Gmail webpage, such as your Inbox page, and at the top, right next to the “Search the Web” button, you’ll see two links: “Show search options” and “Create a filter”
Step 1: Click on “Create a filter”
Step 2: On the Create a Filter page and in the ”From” field, type in the Gmail address that you’re using on your BB to send email.
Step 3: Leave the other field boxes empty, then click on the ”Next Step” button.
Step 4: You’ll see the Action boxes. Check the ”Delete it” box, then click on the ”Create Filter” button.
Yikes! You’re done! And this is what the Gmail filter will do:
Those Gmail copies received from your own Gmail address will delete itself into oblivion before it even reaches your BB inbox. So no more duplicate copies on your BB!
Now, obviously, you won’t be able to use this Gmail address to send yourself a reminder note because anything sent to yourself via the same Gmail address will never reach you. Wow, I’m getting dizzy. Anyway, you can test this out for yourself (as I did, of course) by simply using your Gmail on your BB to email a test item to another email account that’s not already on your BB. “Why,” you say? Because it’ll look like you’re receiving a duplicate message, when in fact, you’re not. Just send the test message to another email addy that’s not being received by your BB. You’ll see what I mean.
That’s it! Another alternative solution… and not to take anything away from Navi because his solution is the most ideal.
However, if you want to avoid the following issue with Verizon, as indicated here:

Then try the Gmail Filter. I had the same issue with the BIS site for Verizon, but instead, mine said the ESN was already registered. A phone call to Verizon will yield very few BB support persons well versed in the BB world. Maybe it was just me. All I know is, I got a really big headache in just two phone calls (they were polite enough, however, but ultimately led to my consumption of a dangerous dosage of Extra Strength Tylenols).
Good luck and hope this helps.
Edit: One last thing... I know some folks are thinking, "wait a minute, if I filter out my own Gmail address, will others be able to receive my email at all?!"
Yes, of course, because the Gmail Filter acts on email items received to your own Gmail account. So therefore, screening messages sent to yourself, via the BB copy/receipt, will now automatically be caught by the filter.
And Thursday, my lecture on quantum interlinear physics...
