Their has been a lot of speculation, even from the forum owner, that RIM would release OS 5.0 prior to January 1, 2010. I haven't seen much discussion around it in the past week or so... but it looks to me like RIM missed the target, if in fact 1/1/10 was a target for the official release of OS 5.0. Then again, I guess we have 1 day left for them to step up to the plate!

Naw, haven't heard anything like that happenning. Even if RIM released it, must be approved by your carrier for DL to their devices.

Technically OS 5.0 has officially been released so they have hit the target. Now its a matter of your carrier to release it so you have access to it.

Back in October RIM had put out a release saying that they intended to have 5.0 out for devices such as the Curve and Tour by Dec. 31.

Exactly! I have an 8900 on TMobile and see no signs of 5.0 as of yet from either RIM or TMobile.

Negative. The 5.0 OS has NOT been released to carriers for the Tour. If I'm wrong, please, someone show me a reference.

And you're not going to see it released before the 9650 is released. What would people want to buy the 9650 for then??

Anyway to the OP's comment, RIM doesn't release software to users. That's up to the carrier. OS 5.0 has been released for some devices. 9500, 9530, 9520, 9550, 9700, and 8900. It is up to each carrier to release it to it's customers. Not RIM.

Do you know for a fact that TMobile has been given OS 5.0 for the 8900 by RIM? And that TMobile is testing it out. That would be interesting to know. I understand that RIM doesn't release OS software directly to consumers... although you used to be able to get it via the Blackberry.com web site. I updated my 8820 a couple of times that way.
