Yes it works on my 8100 but you have to double tap to get the N instead of B. Uppercase is not needed. Too bad the black color is hard to read on my fav theme. I look at the dB strength under 'status' a lot to get a hot spot out here in the sticks.

Well darn. With the bPhone Zen theme on my 8100 it only shows a 1 for 100 or over and then disappears completely when I'm in the 90s.

Hmmm. The signal power displaY WILL ALWAYS be two digits only, so -100 dBM will show as -10, -110 will show as -11 yada yada BUT, in the real world it is highly unlikely you will EVER see a signal power higher than about -40 dBM. In other words, you probably will never see -37 dBM as it is TWICE as strong (3 dB) as a -40 dBM signal.
Maybe you can try a different theme scheme? We all make choices! Hahaha
I did this with my 8310 with the iBerry blocks custom l theme, and the signal bars disappeared and the actual db numbers are not there, did I do something wrong? I am new to this and would appreciate your cander in this matter. thanks
I have the bpone ZEN theme and running OS 4.5 Beta on both my 8310 & 8320. The signals on both are nearly identical at any given time. I've seen it in the range of -80 to - 110 and it displays all 3 digits. At -80 my white bars indicate full strength.

Neat! Wish I cud get 3 digits on my 8820, it's BIG enuff. <giggle>
Did you climb to the top of an antenna?! Personally I've not seen better than -75dBm.
Hahahaha! I tried to climb a tower I found using Google Maps but, in high heels, it was kinda hard so I gave up. <giggles> I think I saw a -60 dBM once. The "inverse square law," which governs the radiation of RF signals is wat is responsible for the RAPID drop-off from a cell tower. Do a Google on it and see,
Oh, BTW, a few in earlier post replies seem unaware that the LOWER the number, the HIGHER the cell tower signal strength. In other words, a signal (say) of -67 dBM is TWICE as strong as a signal of -70 dBM. Every 3 dB LESS, number-wise represents a doubling of received power.
It just may happen one day that knowing all this techno-babble may save a life in an emergency situation. I hope so. Knowing wat the level is, and how to increase it cud be valuable.
On the 8830 this trick works but the display is pooched by the Profiles icon which sits tight to the bottom of the signal strength display onb the upper right of the display screen.
Unless you have a pretty small font set, you won't be able to read the number accurately as the strength number is half hidden by the Profiles icon.
Yeah works on the Curve also...my back ground pick hides it due to the font color being the same color...thaks for the tip though...I would rather have the numbers than unreliable bars...

Just an update.
I'm using the default ATT theme now and I get 3 digits on an 8100 running 4.2. The upload-download arrows do partially cover it when they're active.
I'd LOVE to see some theme designers incorporate this feature.
As for signal strength, I'm happy to get anything better than 100. I can still get an Edge signal at about 105 but it makes all but the simplest web browsing difficult. Still better than nothing.... Or my old cell provider.
