So, RIM
We have our Bold 9000 phones. And you said that you would give us OS 5, by the end of the year.
I thought that you (RIM) had promised to deliver OS 5 by the end of 2009?
You're late aren't you? Or am I mistaken?

This is just crazy in my opinion. I also have the bold on AT&T, and I've been waiting for this for such a long time. Yesterday i installed the new leak on it, and it did run pretty well. But we need an official release here, I'm just tired of doing all the steps to get visual voicemail and the browser fix with the leaked version. Is it too much to ask for to just release the damn thing already? And it's not like AT&T cannot support it; all the newer blackberries are coming with the OS. This may sound like venting, but I'm just so frustrated at the moment, because OS 5.0 really is a dramatic improvement over this bug ridden OS we are confined to right now. They better release this thing soon.
Guys, how many times it needs to be said that RIM DOES NOT realease new versions of OS. This is done by the carriers. It is up to them to decide when a new version of the OS is stable enough for them and then decide when they wish to do the public release. Please stop blaming RIM for this.
Anyhow, the latest beta OS 5 version for the Bold is quite decent, and has only a few quite bareable issues.
Cheers!
Until ATT is good and ready we will remain in a holding pattern. One day...

This is so true, This is probably y our carriers have not released it as yet as OS .411 is somewhat buggy...
RIM just need to touch up abit more on the .411 OS then our carriers will happily release it.
Hey Daniel
If that is so true, then .411 wouldn't need to be touched up
RIM have caused a complete mess by not doing over the air updates direct from them
Many cell phone companies just don't care enough about their customers to be given this kind of responsibility.
Come on RIM, kick the carriers in the a-hole for us.
blackmail the president of RIM...that will get it out in a few seconds, haha.
They want to you bump up to 9700 or a newer BB....reason why they ain't pushing 5.0 out. I would think the 9000 would be great with 5.0. Mine always froze up, barely watch videos...but with my 9700, they run great. Hope they send out 5.0 to you guys.
I loaded 348 and then 411. Both were really good builds in general but I found the phone quality choppy on both builds, and not a good as the last official build from Rogers (4.6.0.303). I went back to the official release, as this is a show stopper for me. Any other Bold 9000 user have problems with poor quality phone signal on the 5.0 builds?
I have a friend that went to the .411 and had the same troubles as you described and she ended up back to her original OS
I'm running .411 on my ATT bold right now, and I have to say I'm impressed. I had to do the browser fix and reinstall my visual voicemail, but other than that I've been running it for a day perfectly fine, with no signal drops whatsoever. I really like this build.
I have .411 in my Bold, radio signal is much better than earlier OS releases. At least under my carrier.
I wrote to ATT about a month ago asking them when they were going to release 5 for Bold 9000 users since the 9700 had just come out, and verizon was running it for Storm 1 and 2 and they wrote me back telling me they had no ETA for giving it out. Im guessing its still a few months off easily, because I wasnt exactly pleasant in my email (been with ATT for about 6 years now, since they were cingular and i just recently been having all sorts of problems with them, in just about every aspect) and i figure that they would have told me a date if it was around the corner. I'm sure they are just trying to get most of us to update to the 9700, but my 9000 still works fine so no need. I just encourage every one to write ATT and ask them to put this out soon....This probably wont do much good, but at least they will know there are a ton of us waiting...
The problem I have with leaked OSes is finding out that certain things won't work properly or sometimes at all, and sure since 5.0 dropped on other devices its gotten a lot better, but I can't take the risk of having my blackberry turned into a really barebones device.
Basically, I just don't want to treat my smartphone like its an old tv that needs a slap to make it work. I need everything to work as its supposed to, because I have to be confident that when someone calls me, it will always get through. Even if the new leaks work very well, a couple of bad experiences have made me not trust anything but the official releases.
Its frustrating having to wait, and yeah i know they want us to all go get the new Bold, but I think most current Bold users will either be waiting on their upgrade or looking to the Storm 2 or whatever for something that offers something new. It sucks to be left so far behind, because the Bold is still a really powerful device and deserves a longer lifespan.
Next time, I'm going to think twice about getting a Blackberry...
For anyone considering a Blackberry here are the weakest things about them...
-Updates, through carriers are slow to get out to users, and require a fiddly and overcomplicated desktop update process
-Wifi system on most bb's is way too locked down and inflexible to use wifi hotspots
-Poor quality internet browser
-Buggy updates to bb messenger
-Memory problems that mean frequent restarts to avoid slowdowns
-No keyboard shortcut to media player, or facebook, or google maps
-Google sync app is buggy and often leads to duplicate calendar entries
-Range of apps on bb application store is a joke. There is little choice very little that is fun
RIM, please kick 02 UK in the *** to release version 5 of the OS, or I will continue to point out all the things I hate about my bb bold 9000.
I totally understand what you say, Its peace of mind knowings its official, even though the leaked OSs are released by RIM...
I'm in the sam situation as you... I like the OS 5... but it is some what buggy...
You need to understand that Blackberry phones are more for business users... they are trying to get into more of a all rounder phone in which they are etting round to doing...
It seems that you should get an Iphone... that is more for the funner generation
Hey Daniel,
Thanks, your responses are helpful, and less cynical than mine.
I can't help feeling that RIM have a responsibility to make sure something works properly before they bring it to market, or to remedy it in a timely way if they need to rush it to market to stop Apple getting a huge market share. In the end RIM are still making money and instead of releasing all these different phones they need to get one phone right. In part it comes down to whether you spend your profits on keeping customers, or milk them for every dollar/penny you can get from them. I have a phone with the above problems, as many of you do, and I'm paying for a better deal than the one I am getting. Bottom line for me - I no longer trust RIM to deliver a working multimedia smartphone. I've had a couple of blackberry's and so has my wife. And we would be unlikely to purchase one again. That's the worst possible thing that a customer can conclude after using your product, and we have gone from being fans to fed ups.
