So there always was a "way" to get your BBOS without a blackberry data plan (just a regular one)

But that was in the BBOS 5 days.

with my Blackberry 7.1 can I "crack" or "hack" it to allow it to use the regular data plans?

I KNOW: that you can use the Opra browser and apps like pandora already use the regular APN settings and don't need one but I want to know what other "tricks" there are.

I'm also aware that "most providers will give you the blackberry data plan for free" but mine does not (wants "$10/month for it)

As far as I know, there's no easy way to do it. If you haven't already, have a read through the following article from late last year that breaks what you can and can't do without BIS.

I've just updated my Blackberry 9900 to the latest 7.1 (that rogers had) and found that now with a NON Blackberry Plan (and maybe with the APN set correctly also which isn't usually required) I can use the regular blackberry browser just fine.

YES I don't have blackberry protect, BBM or email notification (with the build it email app) but it seems to be happier with the network.

Is this something of the newest version for most of you? or did something happen at my carrier?

This would be so good if my 9900 worked like the BB10 phones and could function just off wifi!

I'm using my Curve 9360 with a regular data plan. The browser works and that's it. No email, no Facebook or Twitter, no App World and no BBM. Sorry, I don't think it's possible, do as much as you can through the browser.

With a non Blackberry Plan I can use browser, App World and facebook when I am on wifi. BB9900
