Blackberry OS Conundrum
Good morning everyone,
I've been a Storm 9530 owner for the last 3 months. I've always been quite a hack with technology. I'm never satisfied with the way things are .. I always look for new upgrades, OS's, apps .. always tinkering. That being said, I've been generally unhappy with the Storm. I won't get into all of the details because my question really has to do with the operating system.
Can someone explain to me why it's so difficult to find information on the different OS versions? Who writes the OS's? For example, I'm with Sasktel. If I go to the Sasktel section on RIM's website, they only have v4.7 available. If I go to MTS mobility, they have 5.0.0.419 available. Why doesn't RIM make an OS available for all Storm owners? Why are they specific to carriers?
Why are their "OS leaks" ? why can't we get any information from RIM that tells us what the change log is? To me, it seems like RIM should just have an OS section on their web page, show the versions, changes and beta's just like most software companies do.
Unless I check Crackberry every day, I'll never know if there is a new OS or a leaked OS available. Google searches for new OS's or Leaks show old or irrelevant information and nothing up to date. So, my question is, why is this such a conundrum?

As I understand the OS release business the carriers are responsible for any delay. RIM releases an OS. Then the carriers are responsible for adoption and release or not. In theory the carriers are testing for function and stability on their network. Early adapters are then kept dependant on sites like CB. At least there is some bit of an option.
