You do realise that a security wipe only wipes your data, a ful wipe wipes the OS files also.

Just realised you maybe didn't realise they were different.

I didn't know that. How do you do a full wipe?

on the 1st page the download that said "Java only for other devices with 523 SFI and up"I have copied that under 9810M_v7.1.0.658_P5.1.0.485 Java folder. Is the browser patch included in that package? and the 523 SFI included? how do we check what SFI im using?

You can wipe with BBH Tool, or BBSAK. Once your device is wiped it will try to boot up, but stop at a certain point and you'll see error 507. This means your device is completely wiped.

Ok...I'm having a brain fart moment. I still have the RC5B browser patch CODs, when I copy and paste it into the folder of the OS I hit yes to all for it to copy that and remove what was there before? Long day at the office, sorry to ask such a silly question.

It rubbish you have to wait but just watch, before you get it back RIM will release another OS on us and off we go again

I hope you got 5.0.0.1096 on that 8520 now...lol 1st thing i did with my works one.
Yes 5.0.0.1096 - pretty bad though for memory drain and also go thru 2 batteries a day plus some charging during the day sometimes. Running fewer apps than on my 9900 due to the lack of power. Despite that, I rarely go thru 2 full batteries on my 9900.

It was funny today. A friend with an iPhone was going to a particular retailer and wasn't sure of the location. I found the address and location faster with Poynt on my 8520 than he did on his iPhone 4S. Anyway, I'm babbling. Later...

Yes for sure but if you're installing the latest full 9900 version from the first post on the thread it includes the browser patch COD's.

The SFI you're using is from the OS that you initially installed. So, as long as you installed an OS above 423 you're ok. Just copy the java files into the java folder.

Just sit tight with whatever OS's radio was best for you...most of us here are happy with the .523 radio while others are happy with something else. If you feel .523 was good for you, you can stick with that.
Well I went from RC3 with .569 base and .523 sfi to RC5b with .569 base and .569 sfi and I can tell ya that the .523 sfi is better than .569 on Rogers at least in Ottawa. I seem to have signal issues and calls dumping to voicemail without ringing. I also have always set the phone to use 3G only.

sorry if this is a dumb question...

i uninstalled all O/S's and installed 658 for the 9810. I then copied the 9900 hybrid (RC5B Full) over top of the 658 install directory. I copied and replaced the files. I then ran the loader.exe file and it says that the BB Desktop Software does not have BB device software for the device connected to the computer.

How do I get 658 on my BB 9900???

hey, how do i get 658 on my 9900 as it is for a 9810.

    I uninstalled all o/s's, then installed 658.

I copied / replaced the full 9900 RC5B over the java and umts folders.

then I tried to run loader.exe and it says that the BB desktop software does not have the bb device software for the device connected to the computer....

    please help...

    thanks

You probably forgot to delete vendor files....do a search for Vendelete+ here on crackberry. That program will look for and delete any RIM vendor file[s]. Then you should be good to go!

i used Vendelete and it is still a no go...

some reason my BB desktop software wont install the 658 O/S for 9810 on my BB 9900.

I thought it should since I copied the RC5B FULL 9900 over the java and umts folder in the loader files in the 658 install folder

Okay just so we're in the same boat...you installed the .658 for the 9810 on your pc/laptop...then grabbed the RC5B FULL 9900, copied that into the entire .658? If you didn't copy the entire contents of RC5B and paste that into .658 as your base, that MIGHT be the issue, or I can be completely wrong. What I would do is grab the latest official or leak for the 9900 and try this process again. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    yup, uninstalled ALL O/S's

    installed 658 for 9810

copied entire RC5B Full for 9900 from page 1 into 658 install folder (copied / replaced).

    used Vendelete

    ran loader.exe

DO I HAVE TO HAVE A LEGITIMATE 9900 O/S installed? It seems to be thinking I want to install a 9810 O/S onto my 9900....I thought installing the RC5B over the 658 install files would fix that?

you have to install 9900's software first, then copy paste RC5B to the 9900 folder

ok, so I have to use 569 for 9900, then RC5B

I cannot use 658 at all?

UNINSTALL ANY OTHER BLACKBERRY OS ON YOUR COMPUTER!!!

Download official .569 install on your computer and copy the contents of RC5B into .569, delete vendor files, shrink if you want to and launch loader! You should be good to go.

Remember this beast takes time to settle, roughly 5 days [for me] do a battery pull every 6 hours 2-3 times a day and you'll be happier than flies on sh!t.
