As zoc mentioned The quality of signal can have an issue with the radio heat as well.

The joining of orange and tmob networks in the uk has helped the signal definetely so that might be where we get lower temperature's from.

zoc, i'll try run it at 649 .sfi 1st, since the rest load in 523 .sfi.

    running update right now.

i found BBsMartCodInfo - Dod Info - Infodependcy - Infolisting in your java mix. should i put it on the java or deleted it?
    Sweet, we're making progress!

Well, 523 SFI works with this mix. I will see how fast the data goes by relying on the java modules alone. 649 to me is like the old 402 which absolutely was crap.
There's a reason for me not to load the stock OS.

Great news that .523 .sfi works with RC4.

.649 was running way to hot for my liking. Will give it a go for now but plan to re load over the weekend with .523 subject to any findings you have between now and then.

Have you retored sounds to RC4 or will I have to reload via the 'jad again ?
Now that's what I was hoping to read!

Which app do you use to monitor battery temp Ian ?

    I use MeterBerry.

.523 ran in the low 20c range even under heavy use.

    .649 is high 20's to early 30's

Strange thing is that the device doesn't actually feel that hot. Wonder if it is MeterBerry not playing well with .569 and giving a false reading.

Zocs mentions high temp and I assume that he is also on Meterberry given that it is pre installed in the Hybrid. Could this be the answer ?
I think it has a weird way of calculating readings, I'd check the meterberry site they have a nice FAQ section

Yes if the device keeps trying to find an maintain a signal, it is just running to get a better 'hold' This is why I want to stick with the .523 sfi for the RC4.

    Not the signal Ian

My comparisons are made from the comfort of my Layzeeboy at home.

    I have 5 Bars of 3G 24/7

I understand but if your handset is in low signal it will ramp the power up a bit to keep the signal strength up.

That is more likely to heat the battery up with higher drain.

I am also in the uk, orange/tmobile both use gsm 1800/1900. And o2/voda use gsm 800/900.
Those are only 2G GSM frequencies Ian... all UK network providers use UMTS 3G band 1 (2100MHz)

How is your temp compared to RC3/.523 ?

I hate to differ but o2 and vodafone have always used the lower bands from orange and tmobile. That's why everything everywhere have the ability to release 4G just now but the others don't as they don't have licenses within the right bands.

Although you are correct they all seem to have UTMS 2100 slots as well according to wikipedia.

I'm working away at the moment. Just managed to get .649 loaded last night before I left, but won't get to load RC4 until Thursday now.

IMO .649 does run hot, but no hotter then any other sfi for me... except of course .523 which runs insanely cool.

I've been battering .649 this evening and haven't managed to raise it above 36C. Compare this to .428 that I maxed out several times at 50C, that was bloody hot!

Absolutely no idea why some run hotter than others, especially since I use Sure Signal and have a constant full 5 bars of 3G at home.

Data speed is certainly lightning fast on .649, signal strength has been on par with .523, and battery life isn't that bad either... so I can live with a little extra heat for those benefits. Can't wait to add the RC4 brew to it now!

Will do some checking tomorrow on the signal.

We all currently use UMTS 3G band 1 (2100MHz). This will change drastically in the future for 4G... but unfortunately not for the best.

I' m still on straight .649 since I'm still out of town, the .649 sfi runs warmer than .523 (the coolest 7.1 sfi by far). I use tiny meter and during light usage it shows around 3-4c warmer than ,523 sfi(.523 around 25-26c and .649 around 29-30c). You are right eagle, the device doesn't feel that hot.
