    Do you have to have a data plan to use BBM, my dad has an 8310 and doesn't have a data plan, he just wanted the phone for the keyboard and calender features. So is it possible for him to use BBM?

    Yes, you need a BlackBerry data plan to use BBM.

    BBM is run through RIMs servers, and as such requires Data.
