Bbm help
Hello, I need some help installing my BBM. I just got a new Blackberry Bold 9000, I didn't manage to figure it out on my last one either, and then it got stolen.
I downloaded the stuff that is on the CD. I talked to a friend who said I needed to call Orange and activate the pin. I have absolutely no idea which number, I tried a couple and nobody answered, on another number the voice gave me options which had nothing to do with BBM.
There are cables and stuff which I haven't used by I am absolutely lost here, since the manual which follows is in French (I live in France) and the one on the CD doesn't cover anything at all (I KNOW how to add a contact jeez, thats not the problem). I also tried the other manual online, but it doesnt get me any further.
So PLEASE if anyone could help me, please explain in simple terms. I am not getting ANY help from the guys in the shop, I paid bloody 500 euros for this phone and I'm not getting any further.
Thank yooouu

bbm should already be on the phone. do you have a BIS acct to use the bbm?
-
What is a BIS acc? is it supposed to come with the package i bought?
-
Ok, I've trying to figure this out on my own. All the guides to set up a BIS is using wireless internet, I don't have that. is there no other way of doing it? I am sure all you guys have registered BIS before, can you please help!

do you not have a data plan with your blackberry?
as far as I know it needs to be sent over the network or wirelessly.
-
Do you have a BB data plan? You must have one to get the browser and bbm to work.

I don't know what a data plan is. I have "mobicarte" (the kind which you pay for by refilling) from Orange. The man in the shop didn't say anything about dataplan. can I get it without wireless? I mean, it can't be possible that people can't make their BBs function unless they have wireless. If so, that should be advertised.

bbm and push email must have a bb data package to go along with it. you can't use wifi for those 2
-
Uh oh. I'm sorry to bring bad news, but you have to have a BB data plan to access the features on the phone. Bb's use servers owned be research in motion, the maker of BB. You don't have access to them without paying for it.

So the data plan is supposed to be a part of the pack I got my phone in? What does it look like? I just have the charger, a cable, headset and some papers with instructions..
-
its not a piece of equipment, you have to pay your cell phone company money to for the actual data package. You would have to call them and get it added on if you so choose to use it.
-
To my understanding, you can't get internet and BBM on pay as you go phones. The data plan comes as part of your payment package each month (at least with at&t it does). It's an additional chatrge that allows for you to use internet and BBM (which runs off the internet).

I suppose I'll just have to go to an Orange shop and yell at them. According to the ones I bought it from, it should be possible, they said I just needed to put in the CD and install something. Does everyone who use BBM synchronize their accounts, get BIS and all that crap? How come somebody told me I just needed to call Orange and verify the pin? Is that after the BIS etc. is in order?
-
you shouldn't have to verify a pin if the BIS is active it will automatically work especially if you got it from the store. they should have activated the phone right there in the store for you.
-
They are French, so they never do anything unless you force them.
They did make some calls though, is it possible they did so without telling me? How do I know if its been done? But I suppose my bbm should be working then, a friend added my pin, and told me it wasnt active.
-
you have to call them back and ask if you have BIS on your acct and see if you can get it if you want to use bbm
-
Alright thanks for all the help! Hopefully it works out

Your pin should be active...it's just an ID # of the phone. But doing anything with the pin, to my understanding, can only be if you have the BB or internet package.
