    A friend of mine has been communicating with me using bbm trouble is, he's in Ethiopia! Does this cost any extra?

    Yes, but only for the data used to send the bbms, 2-3 kb per text bbm if not less though.

    Is your frind roaming in ethiopia? If his contract is in ethiopia it doent cost extra, only if he's roaming there there will be some very small charges.

    Data charges, not min/text. Like people have said above, if he has unlimited data and is not roaming, you should be fine.
