Now my girlfriend has gone to a Galaxy S2 from a Bold 9700 there's no real need for me to keep my BBM. Will it improve my BB 9900's battery life if i uninstall it?
I'll have to use Whatsapp now to talk to her. Or, do I get a new Girlfriend....

The latter. I cant see bbm being a battery drainer if its just doing nothing in the background.
I've uninstalled BBM and installed whatsapp instead. Since i've only 15-20 ppl on bbm, it was a smart idea to switch whatspapp with over 150 ppl in my phonebook.
If you are not going to use it much just uninstall bbm and switch whatsapp. +
I don't think BBM uses any battery if it is not being used. I never see it show up in the Device Analyzer under battery drains.
I would be more worried about whatsapp draining your battery. Enable device Analyzer and battery drain tracking and I bet whatsapp will show as a drain.
You might want to just revert to texting her or buy her a newer BlackBerry.
Whatsapp will drain iur battery. I had to uninstall mine. Instead I just txt my non-bbm frens. Just get a new primary gf with blackberry and revert that gf as secondary since she uses android. Lol. Just kiddin!
