While these base OSes are recommended, Alcohol will work over any 6.0.0.6xx or .7xx OS. If you have found another OS in those series that works best for you, certainly feel free to use that one instead.
Please note that some users have reported a "break-in" period with any hybrid. That is, the first day or so has poor battery life, but then things stabilize and we start sipping at the battery again. Battery life is critically important to me, so I am always mindful of those issues (and reluctant to leave my beloved 9700 for some shiny new OS7 device). I have not experienced this phenomenon myself, but I did want to mention that it is possible. Regular battery pulls for the first day or so can help in the "break-in" process.
To install this hybrid, extract the contents of this zip file into the Java folder of the base OS you choose to use. On my system, these files were extracted into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700M_v6.0.0.723_P6.6.0.248\Java.
When you extract the cod files into the folder listed above, you should be prompted to confirm that you want to replace existing files. If you are not prompted, then you are probably trying to extract to the wrong directory and the hybrid files will not be installed on your device.
If you do not know exactly what you're doing, then you should choose one of the following options:
1. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS HYBRID.
2. Read my guide on the CrackBerry forums, available here: Hybrid OS Installation Guide
3. Read any How To posts by elite1 in practically any hybrid or leaked OS thread on CrackBerry.com
4. Search the CrackBerry forums and read as much as you can find about how the BlackBerry OS loader process works.
This package does NOT include any third party applications at all. I build hybrid OSes. I do not promote any apps or force users to choose whether they want to install apps they may not want. If you are looking for a particular third party app, I probably have an opinion about it and may be able to tell you where to find it (I'm talking free or paid versions, NOT WAREZ).
I'm a noob is these doings, and i've been very upset due to my Torch's lag when i swipe through menus.
I love both my phone's design and funcionality, but that lag kills me, since even my gfs 100€ android phone beats this in speed!
Back to the noob part:
I've read the "How to...guide' and for what i've seen, the installed OS(I got 747 from another thread for a 9800), but when i install it, it goes to a folder in the desktop rather than to the directory you're saying...
So should i copy/paste the entire folder? Or reinstall it again?
How is easy/hard is to dld the App Loader? I've tried to dld the BBPH tool, but it sent me to some mirror pages and got me no further.
Since my OS is only the .222 something, will instaling an hybrid based on .747 , corrupt or make it unusable some features related to my current location? I'm from Portugal. I'm talking about some specific funcs...
Sorry for the long post but, you really want to have a better OS and you don't know how, you come up to this
Same as bmercer94....straight Alcohol (LOL) over 723 base.
No other way for alcohol to go down smooth but yes, it's working perfectly. I removed an app that was a known battery hog to give more accurate readings of what can be expected.
Installed last night almost 11hrs past with 3 reboots and 3 hrs heavy used. This built is a great great combinations of Aikido's media and Akimbo's browser.
Battery and memory management is amazing. No bug found yet.
this is what i get after 3 hours Alcohol installed. this is taken after 5-6 reboot. is this result decent for my device? and some questions here;
i) why no twitter notification in drop down notification bar? i'm using latest twitter for blackberry
ii) i noticed this, after downloading and installing new blackberry id update, my boot time getting longer? is this related or just my imagination?
iii) is refreshing Facebook news feed for every hour prevent loads of memory loss? (memory leak).
iv) why the browser is smooth? (bonus silly question )

i) My twitter notifications still show in drop-down
ii) BlackBerry ID likes to do that, not sure why
iii) I've never experimented with different refresh rates to compare memory leak
iv) no clue
