Hmm I don't use maps so I never really tested it, but my suggestion would be to uninstall maps and use google maps which is a lot better anyway

if you really dont like that suggestion, then i will make one with the 4.5 bb maps for you
Us WE users have a wonderful included nifty bit of service that verizon has gladly let us use to anyway we feel like called GPS.

Except it only works on BBMaps.

And it only works in CDMA coverage, not GSM.

With this hybrid OS will any of the new BES 5.0 features be available?

Like creating email folders or using distribution lists.

    Thanks

I got the media player problem after installing the new OS. I found that out after it didn't play my alarm this morning.

Did a batt. pull and it seems to be working fine now. Is it fixed, or will it come back? Don't know whos experiencing the same thing.

I don't notice that much of a different on the new OS Since I don't have a data plan yet, but the startup was much much quicker.

The media problem will come back. No one has confirmed exactly what is causing it yet.

i need some people willing to test it out on their 8830's i'm sure u all want to anyway haha

To install just extract the zip file on your computer. Remember the location. Open up Desktop Manager and click on Application Loader. Under Add/Remove Applications press Start. When the screen comes up with all the apps on your device, select Browse and navigate to the folder you extracted from the zip. Choose the BlackBerryMessenger.alx and click next. Then just wait for the phone to reboot and walla, the brand new BBM 5.

Does you have to install a hybrid or can you just install BBM 5.0. My friends 8830 is a work phone and even though they dont have BES she really doesnt want to update the OS on her phone but she does want BBM 5.0

I think you at least have to have 4.5.0.160 installed to run BBM 5.0. I don't know if that is enuogh to make it work onthe 8830WE, but others running 4.5.0.138 on their Curve 8330s no longer had the BBM icon after installing BBM 5.0.

If she doesn't have 4.5.0.160 already installed, then an upgrade will probably be necessary for BBM 5.0 to work. Her choice to go with .160 or the hybrid.

Does anyone know if this works with a Verizon 8830WE and is being used with a BES? Would I have to reactivate with the BES or will hold my settings?
