Does anyone know what the deal is with not having the ability to go from 4G/3G to 2G/EDGE network in any of the 7.1 OS? It really bugs me.

I believe its carrier dependant and its to stop people manually picking which network bearer they use.
I would *presume* its done to keep people where the network want them, rather than where they might otherwise want to be.
The closest non BB example was '3' in the UK some time ago - if you put your phone into 2G only mode you would roam onto the o2 network and thus incur 3 costs.
I'm running 7.1 on o2 UK and can still pick my network bearer from the menu - I've not tried any of the later OS's (partly due to one having weird radio problems, and partly due to the IT Policy in later builds.)
it dosent matter its just a fancy icon on your phone to show 3g or 4g in reality every one is running 3.5g
Probably because 3G will die off one day and they are trying to make sure that everyone moves with the way of the network...Ugh. Talk about getting ahead.
AT&T have removed that option from all current and future OS7.1 versions. It's gone for good, and there's nothing you can do about it.
If you want it back you'll have to downgrade to one of their OS7 builds, or the very old and buggy OS 7.1.0.74
Hardly... That's a bit of an odd statement tbh.
I know when my phone is on 2G GSM 900 thats what band it is on. No question about it.
IT Policy is gone in .523 and .569.
Automatically wiped on install, no need to manually remove.
Ahh thanks for letting me know that - I may well try one of the newer builds myself then.
The last one I tried had an odd radio problem where a voice call wouldn't alert (Ring or display) but data was fine. The phone would also drop a call from time to time but not release the radio channel leaving the phone in an odd lockup state on the radio side where it wouldn't let me make another call or recieve a call without switching the radio off & on.
When I have some time & after the small sporting event has passed us by I'll do an upgrade and see what happens & post back on one of the os specific threads.
