So I play Mafia Wars and I have a ton of 'mafia friends'. On my pc I just hide them so I only see status updates from my friends. On my bb however no one is hidden! Is it just the app or what??

I think its the app. I don't play Mafia Wars, but I have some facebook friends statuses hidden because of constantly annoying status updates- and yet I see everyone of my friends statuses on my news feed.
