Ah, another failing of the application. Doesn't put people's birthdays and **** onto my contacts.
Reinstalling the app did update my Calendar to include the event that I made last night but that's about it.
It doesn't put people's birthdays into their contact information (which is stupid, why on earth wouldn't it do that?), but rather, they go directly on the calendar, and it only shows the birthday of those in your contact list.
I'm glad that it's hopefully fixed your event syncing problem, at least.

Wow that's sick, I didn't notice this before, now I don't have to remember anything ever again!!
