OK, so I read all the raves about it, and I've tried it.
In fact, I thought that maybe my dislike the first time was due to ignorance, so I downloaded and tried it a second time the other day.
Sorry to say, I really kinda thought it sucked.
The "Is it okey dokey for Opera Mini to open a low level connection" each time I'd enter a search was a PITA. The slowness of the preview in getting me to where I needed to go was a PITA too. The only benefit I found, from my perspective of course, was that I could see things, like my online banking stuff, that I can't get on the BB browser. Maybe I'm just not enough of a mobile web surfer to appreciate it, but . . . Opera Mini strikes me as clunky and overcomplicated.
But if it truly is better, I'd like to learn about it and find out why. Anyone have some suggestions, or input on what I'm missing?
I love it and use it as much as possible- everything but D/Ling software. You can eliminate the Preview problem by switching to Mobile View in options. Every site I use on it is rendered so much better and it loads quicker. Sorry you don't like it, but I think it's far and above the native BB browser.
i've tried it and hated it because of the way it looks on the pearl hey chaz do you know anything about minuet browser ? i saw it on here and it looks like it is built for the pearl
it's good because you can see about 99.9% of web sites and the default browser you can see a bout 20% of the web sites these were sites i went to a lot on my computer but not on my phone tell i got opera
The big thing I think that keeps me hoping I'm just slow learning about it is that I really wanna be able to access my bank accounts online from my berry. It's pretty much my only net connection outside of work right now.
To understand why you might want Opera Mini, you must download, install, configure and use Opera. Then, there will be light!
Opera is not for the casual computer user, but for power users who can read the manual and configure things. Basically, The real power comes in that you can "sync" between your desktop browser and mini. =) For example, you can set a bookmark on one, and have it automatically sync'ed to the other.
Also, you can highly customize Opera, and it does a really nice job with POP and IMAP email, even if you haven't ever liked a web mail client before.
I don't know the answer to your question, other than many other threads around here seem to say "NO".
So, I installed OM again, and set it to mobile, and it is pretty cool. I may be sold on it now. Just one thing I wonder about.
Why does it always ask me when I start it if it can open a low level connection? Can I get rid of that?
I'm wondering the same myself. This is the reason why I stopped using it on my work BB. I may give it another try on the Curve as the Pearl's screen is super small.
The default links on the start page, MySpace and so forth, you can customize them to show your favourite Web sites.
I agree with Patrick though - the real magic is in the "sync" part, which allows you to sync your bookmarks between multiple devices including desktop computer (Apple Mac OS X, Linux, Microsoft Windows), Pocket PC (Microsoft Windows Mobile), BlackBerry devices, video game console (Nintendo Wii), most cell (mobile) phones and others...
My only complaint is the way in which it connects - Opera Mini can't use the BlackBerry access point and therefore is not included in the "unlimited" part of one's plan, mine included.

whoooo.. wait..ifi use opera mini, i i will have to pay for my internet usage?????
I use Opera Mini for most of my browsing on the Curve. It's pretty fast and I enjoy the convenience of Speed Dial. I get error messages here & there & have to do a battery pull.. but overall, I'm very satisfied w/ it.

I am having the same question about always asking for a connection.
I have used it deleted it and installed to try again.
I am thinking of the newest one to try that just came out.
What I really need is a HTML viewer and a way to open zip files
