    1) Building travel itineraries, flight info, getting flight status and updates, etc.? WorldMate has much of this, but makes you pay $99 for the feature which I really desire... flight status. I don't mind paying $5 or $10 for a good app, but $99 is not realistic when I am only traveling a few times each year. Now, if I was constantly traveling for business, then WorldMate would be worth it.

    2) Getting public transit schedules and maps for the NYC area, including specifically NJ Transit and the NYC Subway system. I can get some of this through Google Maps and njtransit.com, but I'd love to have it in one convenient place with an app.

Some, maybe most, carrier's will text you your flight status for free, if that's the feature you really want. That may be an easy, free option. I can't help you with the second question.
