I use Accuweather, and if using some themes will display today's weather icon on homescreen, as I'm sure others do like Weathereye.

You need to d/l a theme. There was a nice guy on here who made one for free.
It's called Precision Tweaked Theme for the 8520 - a search should show it up.
You need to make sure the Accuweather icon is the first one on the second row for it to show up on your homescreen.
