- And before I get flamed for not wanting to pay, I'm unemployed, money is very tight I've had to cancel cable and wifi and I can't afford extra frivolities.08-12-09 02:54 PMLike 0

Actually, I don't think any of these developers should feel required to say what they're adding, given that these are beta AND more importantly, FREE. You get what you pay for, more often than not, but this product that they've put real effort into is worth more than free. Very rare case of unequal exchange.
It would have been more colorful to see an argument based on the fact that as "beta testers" we deserve some say about what goes in and what stays out; I mean we are making our phones vulnerable with a product that isn't under warranty. Isn't promised to be bug free. That would have at least been more engaging, but still not bulletproof.
But to get upset because someone decides that they are deserving of pay for their services...lol, wow. Last time I checked, it was more advantageous (not to mention, reasonable) to be a paying customer before making demands about the product, especially a non-necessity.
tsk tsk tsk.
And one more thing: I'm curious. How does being unemployed and an inability to pay for "frivolities" entitle someone to get what they want, how they want it, for free? And if ads in UT are so frivolous, then is it really worth it to remove an ap you've (for all intents and purposes) been comfortable with just because of this "frivolous" change? I mean, at worst, if you clicked the ad by accident, you'd be providing some funds for your free app.Last edited by I_love_my_bold; 08-12-09 at 03:46 PM.
08-12-09 03:32 PMLike 0 - Excuse me.. Back the **** off of me.
I am not the only one who has these opinions, There is absolutely no reason to personally attack me for them and I will not feed into a bash-fest by acknowledging rude remarks.
I never said that people shouldn't get paid for their work. If there was a donation option, or if an app is reasonably priced, I may do it or I may pass because of my finances. As I already said before I don't agree with the way UT handled the upgrade, forcing the ad, not allowing a downgrade to the previous vs, not allowing a paid non-ad option etc.
This is all I'm going to say about this.08-12-09 03:57 PMLike 0 - Who personally attacked you? I think, at best, your reasoning was attacked because it's flawed. And cursing at the folks that disagree with you isn't going to make your point of view any more reasonable.
It's one thing to be upset over how the ad additions were handled, but what others were wondering is how exactly was it misleading?
And as for what I posted, I never said or suggested that you don't think people should get paid for their work: I said that I think it's ridiculous to be upset to the point of apparent outrage over someone choosing to try to make a buck from their contribution, especially when the addition was actually pre-advised. Not convinced: go here to this previous thread where it was documented at least 5 days before this version was released:

I'm sorry you were offended, but your distaste with how this was handled seems completely unwarranted. You didn't have to upgrade, if you read the changelog sufficiently. Given the pre-advised notification, you weren't forced to do anything (not to mention that as a beta developer, you can choose to add anything you want and folks are never obligated to upgrade to include those additions), and you were in complete control of giving yourself the ability to downgrade had you used proper backup techniques.08-12-09 04:21 PMLike 0 - DenverRalphyRetired Network ModWhy in the world do you think they should offer you the ability to downgrade?
The purpose of the ads is to pay for their servers. A developer would have to be insane to keep the free non-ad version available. Otherwise their servers would still be providing services at their own expense.

I do agree that they could have made it clearer that the ad-less version would not be available right away, but all of this outrage over people trying to get compensation for their hard work and dedication is both sad and worthy of serious head shaking.08-12-09 04:27 PMLike 0 - Excuse me.. no, I'd rather pay for a finished app than have a cluttery, hard to read freebie. I'll check out the paid version when it comes out.Last edited by TDRock; 08-12-09 at 04:40 PM. Reason: merging two posts into one
08-12-09 04:32 PMLike 0 - How the heck is the ad cluttery? Its a single banner that disappears once you scroll down. I think many are making too big a deal over this.
Also, for anyone interested, the 'del' key pages up. (Got an email from UT).
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-12-09 06:11 PMLike 0 - I mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread that I was experiencing some memory leak. I take that back now. It has seemed to stabalize a bit now.
Sorry for jumping the gun, I should not have spoke so soon about memory issues right after a reboot. I should have given it some more time. I started with 36mb free and after a couple hours it dropped down to like 29mb free. Now its back up to 32mb free.
There WAS however a major leak in the leaked dev. version .903.
Very happy with this build so far and don't care too much about the ads. STOP WHINING ABOUT IT PEOPLE. SMH

- I am fine with the ads, UT is a great product. I am getting an error message "uncaught exception, permission denied." I've deleated and downloaded 2 times with same result. Each time I did battery pull. Loaded program with default permissions. Any ideas?
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-12-09 06:35 PMLike 0 - Do NOT download UberTwitter Beta-4. It doesn't have the functions of the old UberTwitter and it has advertising. They want you to buy a new UberTwitter app that has the old functions and no ads.
UberTwitter has sold out. I need a new Twitter app for my BB. Pls help.08-12-09 06:44 PMLike 0 - DenverRalphyRetired Network Mod

- Sorry, my sarcasm was a little more subtle than usual. lol I love UT. I actually got a Social scope invite and prefer to use UT. It really does have everything I could want. I guess I just get frustrated when people complain about something that has been free since I have been using it.08-12-09 08:28 PMLike 0
