Well if it uses the flash then why wouldn't the screen be black? Why not just start the video camera? That will turn the flash on for you.
For your app though. Have you tried emailing the developer? Most flashlight apps use the video camera and flash, so do you have the "video light" set to "On" in your video camera options?
That's all I ever do is turn on the video camera.
I have one touch flashlight and it works fine.

Quicklauch has a flashlight app within itself. Works very well.
FlashOn works great for me. I have it set for a convenience key. It works everytime.

DUDE... just go to your video camera and use the spacebar to toggle the flash on/off... Free flashflight, no need to download anything...
quicklaunch flashlight
I actually use FlashOn for 1-click convenience because I use my BB as a flashlight a LOT, but it's pretty easy to just open the video camera.
ShortcutMe has two different flashlight apps embedded in it.
One that turns on the Video camera flashlight (this was embedded since march 2009) and a second one that uses LCD and LED (usefull if you don't want the light to be so bright).
The second one can be set to white, green, blue, red and yellow color.
The red color is very usefull to check your kids without waking them up.

In a million years I will never understand PAYING for something the phone can
easily do for free.
Mind you, ShortCutMe and QuickLaunch are more than flashlight apps so their
value is obvious. The ones that simply turn on the light to me seem quite silly.
I use the video function assigned to a convenience key.

Just open video camera, its the same deal, these programs are useless since you can do it by yourself

Verry nice I just learned some thing new

I have quick launch, and whenever I use the built-in flashlight function, it doesn't work, it just opens up the video camera. I dont want to set the video light to always on.
Thanks for this very useful tip!
Jam gives you a lot of flash options including emergency signals. Cute and fun.

Excellent advice :)
Just go to the videocamera options en set your light to ON, then set the Videocamera as a quickbutton. I'v set mine on the left en photocamera on standard right. Need a light? Just.press the left button. Quick, easy and free!

O.P. (Mike), I hope the one you had trouble with was not one of mine?
1. The light turns off unless you keep making input,
2. On Storm you can't just toggle the light on unless you go through the pain of changing the default in the options.
3. Many people prefer not to have the light on by default for video recording, but want a 1-click light also.
