I have a hunch that the app probably automatically texts via e-mail. Most carriers will assign an e-mail address to your phone number. For example, if 555-555-5555 were a Verizon number, the e-mail address would be [email protected]
You may have to do a little digging to find the other carriers' e-mail domains, but my guess is that's how it works.
Free Text Messages
OnlineTextMessage.com allows free text messaging. You can send free SMS text messages to anyone with a SMS or text message enabled mobile phone. You no longer have to pay to send quick SMS or text messages as long as you have access to the Internet. All major carriers are supported: Verizon, AllTel, AT&T, Cingular, TMobile, Sprint, SunCom, and Nextel. You can also add it to your MySpace Profile or Google!
Hey, send an email to (any phone number)@teleflip.com and it converts it to a text. Can't respond though. Also there's a little something you may have heard of called bbmessenger? I know its only blackberries, but any friend with a phone other than a bb is no friend of mine!
Yeah I was looking for something that could be used to send and respond. I have Free Text, like I was saying in my 1st post on my Ipod. It sends and receives Text messages in a IM format for a one time $5 fee...
I tested out the text free app on my Touch and it's actually pretty nice for the receiver. I sent texts to my phone and the address came through as a proper and easy to read email address. What I'd like to know is how to get a blackberry email message to do the same because I always have trouble deciphering my fiance's address sent from her blackberry to my phone as do others and it can be a little frustrating having to type in or dig out the reply address from my phone book before sending a reply.
So I guess the question is are there any apps that can use the blackberry email system to text more seamlessly than the current system does or are there settings to deal with the garbled address on the receiver's end?
Heres what I do, Ask your most texted friends to get a facebook account and ask them to set up notifications to be sent to their phone if someone sends a message to them (i think they can also specify individual users) Then, download facebook app and message them thru that.
Holy dead thread revival.
For anyone interested in Email to SMS gateways, I found this link.
Lol. Google Voice ftw. Not that the OP is likely to every read this :D
Last time the OP posted was in June of 2009...
+1 for Google Voice. way cool stuff.
does it really work, GV. I had it for a while but couldn't really understand how the text messaging is free. I still have the account and all, but I'm using my number instead of a Google number.
The GV txt msg uses data so you aren't charged txt msg rates. With GV running, go to your Contacts. Highlight one you want to send a txt to and hit your menu button. Choose SMS using Google Voice.
I wish i could use google voice but it doesn't work in Canada apparently!!
Anyone know a fix around that?
I use the SMS gateways a lot, since I don't have a txt bundle.
I Email my daughter's phone so she receives as TXT. And then she responds by TXTing my email address. I don't incur any SMS charges and hers just hit her bundle/allotment.
Heyy omar its me maryamo
is there any app that let to send free text accross UAE ??? , there are somany free apps in india , like 160by2.com
As mentioned "Text Free" uses an email address that changes each time a text is sent and it is not just Apple as I have it on my Kindle Fire. My granddaughter uses it for texting me.
I would highly recommend "What'sApp". It is a free application that allows free text messaging anywhere in the world. Its available from AppWorld or online through their website. The only thing that you need to be aware of when using What's App is that it is a real resource hog and will drain your battery if you do not close it each time you use it. There are two menu options to shut it off after use. One is "close" and the other one is "exit". If you hit close or use the escape key, it continues to run in the background sucking up battery. It's not real excessive but enough that you will want to be careful and make sure to close it.
The link is here for it. Good luck! Free WhatsApp Messenger - Download WhatsApp Messenger - Free Apps from BlackBerry App World
