Tetherberry = Great. I've used it primarily abroad when I upgrade to VZW's global data plan just for the duration of my trips. I've used it in Frankfurt, Sydney, Melbourne, various parts of Tasmania and in Seoul-Incheon airport with no trouble. And I've of course used it at home on my laptop and netbook for testing purposes.
Tetherberry works good I used the free trial. I didnt end up buying it after reading horror story of verizon sending a bill to people for using it and not using there service though.
I believe that if your laptop is bluetooth enabled you can tether for free using PdaNet. Note in the instructions that you can skip to step 3 if you use bluetooth (thus not having to dl and purchase the software).
