Um No. Go to manage connections and turn off your 3g connection but leave wifi on. You will see that skype no longer works. 3g overrides the wifi
You're right hydroz. Thanks for the info. it overrides the wi-fi.

    Just two notes:

    1. Skype Mobile can NOT use Wifi, you have to use your existing data plan.
    2. Skype Mobile will work only on Verizon Network in the US at least for now, so other carrier users do not waste your time downloading it.

From my understanding the voice part of Skype doesn't use the data network, it uses the voice network and counts towards your minutes, thus WiFi would have no affect on the application.

If you installed Skype Mobile, and clicked the icon on your BB, you will have two disclaimers,
the first one will tell you that skype can not use wifi and if you are on other carrier like I am you will another message telling you that this skype will work on verizon wireless only.

To your thought about the voice part, I think skype uses VoIP through your data plan and not the voice plan.

It does NOT count towards your minutes. Read the TOS when you turn it on.

Thought it might be handy to share this with reference to costs, its a direct cut and paste from the help:

    Costs

How much does it cost to use Skype mobile on my Verizon phone?
Skype-to-Skype calls are free to make and receive, and calling international phone numbers uses Skype Credit, just like it does on your desktop PC.

Calls to US numbers will be carried by Verizon Wireless, not Skype, and charged according to your calling plan.

How much data does Skype mobile use?

Let's look at an example user. Tom has 25 Skype contacts and signs in twice a day for a total of 1 hour. He sends and receives about 15 messages a day and makes two Skype calls of about 2 minutes each. Tom would use roughly 1 MB worth of data in one month. We strongly recommend you sign up for a Verizon Wireless data plan and check how much you will pay per megabyte.

How much does it cost to call international numbers?

The rates for calling international numbers are the same as they are on Skype on your computer - see the rates on skype.com.

Like others have said - Whats the biggest incentive with Skype? The only advantage I see is over seas. To my knowledge they aren't pushing video right? Only voice and IM?

    I don't get it?

Someone tell me what Im missing.

I am going to use this APP to make calls to the UK.

I paid $36 for Unlimited World (3 months). I currently use Time Warner and I would pay $63 for the same time period.
