    Hi all,

I will release a SIP client beta 1 for the Blackberry in a few weeks.

    Points.
    1) It only works on GSM phones
    2) It only supports G.711 codec
    3) Eventhough it works on OTA and WIFI, it would be locked for WIFI only
    4) STUN server address is hardware coded in
    5) DTMF relay has not been implemented
    6) The outbound proxy is the same as the registration server
    7) It will have an expiration date of 7/31/10 (could be changed)

Notes: We have tested this on no less than half a dozen commercial servers and all of them checked out.

    I'd be interested in this...

Q tho. Why is the STUN server hardcoded? Will I be limited to "your" VOIP Service?

    Edit :
Will I be able to enter my own :
    "Internet Number"?
    Account information Username/PAssword?
    Registrar?
    Proxy server?

Also, will you also support G.726 & CLIR (in future releases)?

Yes. You will be able to enter all that. The STUN server provides a service to discover public ip address and port.

We have no plan to support G.726 & CLIR. We might support GSM in the future. Our goal in the future is to provide features like device to device direct calling and voice security.

We have not tested the Storm 2 in GSM mode as the Storm 2 is distributed by a CDMA wireless carrier.

    @Aviator :
I've read on other forums that you are doing some cosmetic stuff on your sip client.
Have you already planned a delivery date of your beta ? and of your final distrib ?

I would love to be a beta tester.

If you are limiting use to Wifi, what difference does it make it the BB is a CDMA or GSM device? Why would it not work on a Verizon device that was connected by Wifi?

Im eagerly waiting for a basic SIP client software, that will work with any kind of data connection (wifi or 3G), to our Asterisk system.

It is limited because most (if not all) CDMA phones do not have two audio channels, which is required to listen and record at the same time.

Anytime now. Just the working on the last minute touch up.

Again. GSM phones only. Talking to people in China to use a special made bluetooth headset to go around the limitations of CDMA phones.

We have not tested the Storm 2 in GSM mode as the Storm 2 is distributed by a CDMA wireless carrier.
    I've tested on my 9520 and 9530

    Here's the test result

    - on 0.65 :
    - on my 9530, the application registered successfully, I don't know wether it's over WAP or TCP * I believe it's over WAP though *
    - on my 9520, the application registered successfully with TCP and WiFi
    - I can make calls from both devices, but no sounds at all from both parties

    - on 0.70 :
    - test results is still the same for both 9530 and 9520
    - on both devices, after I call the green call button, it gave me "javax.microedition.media.MediaException: Unsupported record encoding type FROM Recorder" error pop-up
    - on my 9520, when I'm not connected to WiFi or didn't put anything on the TCP/IP, I can't close the VippieBBUdp apps, but when the apps is successfully registered ( either using TCP or WiFI ), I can close the apps

I'm testing it on 9530/5.0.0.591 and 9520/5.0.0.580 DRM version

That is definitely not our app as we have not released the beta yet. But expect the beta version be released in a week or two.

@riv : I think that you are talking about vippie. Aviator is releasing a generic sip client. Your tests may not be related to his app.
